As an enthusiastic cardio tennis participant myself, I regularly attended group classes at my previous tennis club SCTC in Surrey, UK. I also acted as an assistant coach for juniors and adult beginners, along with running cardio tennis sessions myself. I'm now looking

Big fat lies about obesity 10/09/2019

Great article and this would require a huge shift in thinking!

'Not everyone can be on the thin side of the bell curve for weight distribution. Fit and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes. And we need to acknowledge that the roads to a fitter and healthier body are wide enough for everyone'

Big fat lies about obesity An ASU professor is challenging the long-held premise that obesity is the primary cause of many major weight-related health conditions. “Health encompasses much more than a number on a scale,” said Glenn A. Gaesser of the College of Health Solutions. “We tend to get hung up on weight and that ...

Keep exercising!! ♥️♥️♥️

Sunday 💛

We talk to a lot of people every day and one of the most saddest things we hear is when people give up exercise when it is the one thing that will so help them in so many ways. 🤷‍♀️

Trust us, we get it. When life throws us a curve ball we shut down. But quitting working out has some real major impacts on our health. There are both the immediate and long-term impacts that quitting our workout routine has on our body and mind. 🤦‍♀️

➡️Blood pressure goes up!
This change is practically immediate as your blood pressure is higher on days you exercise than on days you don’t. Within just one month of neglecting your body, your arteries and veins stiffen, sending your blood pressure reading back to where it would be if you’d never left the couch or started working out in the first place. If you suffer from high blood pressure, a month or two back at the gym will lower your numbers and have your blood vessels functioning efficiently.

➡️Our Bones Weaken!
One of the more long-term effects has to do with your bone health. Months upon months off of exercise, the effects can reach our bones within a year. As we age and over time we need to work harder to maintain our fitness. No weight bearing activity our bones are more susceptible to becoming brittle and we are more at risk of osteoporosis.

➡️We Gain Weight!
Stopping exercise we quickly notice an increase in body fat. To avoid weight gain, we need to alter our diet to counteract our lack of physical activity but that generally never happens.

➡️Our Moods Change!
Those of us who workout know about the elated post-workout feeling. We feel light, healthy, clean, and strong. Exercise has the ability to improve our mood and actually suppress chemicals in the brain that cause depression by releasing other chemicals that lessen it. Not only will we miss that post-workout high, but we are more likely to feel grumpy and self-conscious about your physical appearance as we lose strength and we start gaining weight!

➡️Anxiety Sets In!
Over and over, the studies found that when we quit exercising, our symptoms of anxiety and depression start to rise. There is more and more research out there around this. Limited ability to exercise can also precipitate anxiety and depression.

Please don't give up moving your body - the effects are so detrimental. It would be so awesome if Drs gave out prescriptions of exercise 💛

What a week!

3 days at Wilding Park doing coach training and on one of the days we got to experience what it would be like to be in wheelchair and also to be visually impaired.

We were given talks from reps from the Blind Foundation and Halberg Foundation.

It was hugely challenging to wheel and hit and I have more appreciation of how to coach athletes with specific requirements.
