When I think of the golden years of Saloon car racing, my mind is casted back to the 80s and 90s. The action, drama and wheel to wheel showmanship that was on display every Saturday night!

Doing a lot of winning whilst that was all happening was a driver that not only showcased excellence on track, but also driving some iconic machinery whilst doing it, against some legendary competition.

Tony Cardwell exemplified all of that, especially if you were a 90s kid watching the star spangled banner liveried number #8 Super Saloon tear up the track.

Aside from the memorable liveries and cars, Tony's skills he put on display combined with the results he achieved was pivotal in having his name etched as part of the Super Saloons section for the Pokeno Auto Centre Speedway Awards of Excellence.

Make sure you join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Wednesday night, as we look to crown the winner for the Tony Cardwell Medalist for season 25/26.

Most, if not all Champions of our beloved sport have had humble beginnings.

None more so then Peter Rees who came into Speedway from a motocross background.

In early years racing Standard Stocks, he honed his craft before building his own cars, year after year he improved his machinery and finessed his driving as won of the best do ever race the Stockcar class.

Whilst he was winnings races, he was also hell bent of burying his opposition as one of the top blockers and stirrers in NZ.

Now fully retired from the Stockcar class, he has left behind a legacy plenty of race and title wins to continue to inspire the generation of today and for tomorrow.

His racing exploits for me personally is the reason why his name is attached to the Stockcar class for the Pokeno Auto Centre Speedway Awards of Excellence.

Here is just some of his stellar results from his Stockcar career....

5x 1st - NZ Stockcar Championships
1x 1st - NZ Stockcar Grand Prix
1x 1st - North Island Stockcar Championship

Tune into the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Wednesday night, join Booker, Kinser and myself as we crown the winning driver of the Peter Rees Medalist for season 25/26.

If there ever was a driver that polarized the Modified class in its early years of racing, in my opinion...it was Roger Betram.

Roger wowed us with his raw pace, and death defying style of racing where he was willing to lay it all on the line whether it was a big championship or a club night.

He had done a lot of winning in Sprintcars before he switched to Modifieds where he went on to become a class legend, and the outright reason why I have his name down for the Modifieds section as part of the Pokeno Auto Centre Speedway Awards of Excellence.

Here is a list of some of his results we all know he won....

6x 1st - NZ Modified Championships
5x 1st - NZ Modified Grand Prix
3x 1st - North Island Championship

Join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Tuesday night, to see who will be outright winner of the Roger Bertram Medalist for season 25/26.

First impressions for me when I think of Alan 'WAKO' Wakeling is reminiscing the yellow wing with Koken sponsorship, the black chassis with panels and the iconic number #27. Unless it was that, we knew the number on the tail tank was number #1.

Not to mention the epic battles he had with arch nemesis Kerry Jones.

His career results speaks for itself, and a core reason why I have his name down for the Sprintcars division for the Pokeno Auto Centre Speedway Awards of Excellence.

Here is some of results from competing on the national stage...

8x 1st - NZ Sprintcar Championships
4x 1st - NZ Sprintcar Grand Prix
8x 1st - North Island Sprintcar Championships

Be sure to join Booker, Kinser and on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Tuesday night as we crown the winning recipient for the Alan Wakeling Medalist for season 25/26

TONY CARDWELL MEDALIST TOP - 10

Our observations of the top 10 for the Tony Cardwell Medalist at Easter, will show that it's a one horse race for the title so far 😬

But we have seen houdini's been pulled out of the bag over recent seasons, and I guess we will have to wait til next Wednesday night to see who will reign supreme as outright winner for the Cardwell Medalist.

For the meantime though, it is all the CCM - Chris Cowling Motorsport show at the moment.

Second and third positions indicate that it's a Flynn Racing a Thon, with inaugural winner of this award Steve in second, and Grant in third provisionally.

From one family to another, it's an Osborne Racing a Thon to round out the top 5, with already 4-time NZ Champion Mark Osborne in fourth and Ashton Osborne in fifth after a solid 25/26 campaign.

Ex -Superstock driver Peter Bengston has certainly come of age after his transition to the non contact grade, as a result...he has been a solid top 10 contender for most of the season.

Likewise Damian Orr has made a successful trasition too, despite a slow start to the season results wise, he has had a strong finish to solidfy his placing.

Jakob Flynn had a mixture of both racing in the North and South Island, his regular travels making him a household name in the top 10 for most of the 25/26 season.

But putting everyone on notice in season 25/26 has been the young sensation that is George Crawford Racing, well deserving of his placing in the top 10 after consistent results week in, and week out.

Rounding out the top 10 is another Superstock convert Thomas Stanaway Motorsport, the Meeanee Speedway driver certainly starting to show his prowess he showed in Superstocks.

Be sure to join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show next Wednesday night over at Kokpit Racing And Media, we look forward to announcing who will be the winner of the Tony Cardwell Medalist for season 25/26.

PETER REES MEDALIST TOP - 10

Competition for the Peter Rees Medalist over recent seasons has been fierce, and the 25/26 season was no different.

When we last saw the points charts at the Easter cut off, it was a grudge match between Harley Robb and Daniel Burmeister Motorsport 👀 just a few points separating first and second.

Despite the late start to the 25/26 season, as soon as Harley hit the track, he never looked back. He was able to bank points and race wins at every race meeting to consolidate his top placing for the meantime.

Meanwhile Burmeister hit the ground running at the start of the season and has been a top contender all season long.

Joining Harley as part of the Southern brigade is Jack Rarity who has been in superb form, likewise Troy Cleveland Motorsport has been strong too.

Sam Wright Racing has been super quick in the upper North Island and is worthy of his top 10 placing.

So too is the current NZ Champion Caleb Ireland, who has been the perfect ambassador traveling the country representing the 1NZ.

Josh Mulcahy Motorsport 48p and Roydon Winstanley have been flying the Palmy flag all season long, and the cowbells will be ringing loud in Mooloo land with Clinton Cheetham, an early leader of the points, despite loss of points due to teams racing commitments, he's still in the top 10.

Will Pilcher Motorsport rounds out the top 10 off the back of shear consistency of results at Woodford Glen Speedway Association Inc.

Join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Tuesday night from 7:30pm, as we announce the winner for the Peter Rees Medalist for season 25/26.

ROGER BERTRAM MEDALIST TOP - 10 (Before Easter cut off)

The last time we saw the Roger Bertram Medalist Top 10, this is how points chase was heading into the Easter cut off 👀

Already two- time Medalist winner Brad Lane is odds on favorite to retain the crown for third time, leaving it up to the chasing pack to zero in on his points haul 🤔

It's a tussle for second place between class veteran Newton Gordge and Jason Kalin Motorsport who has certainly stamped himself as a top 10 contender all season long.

LSK Motorsport - Luke Keegan 34c has been the best of the Southerners, with the Canterbury, South Island & Invasion titles up his sleeve at Woodford Glen Speedway Association Inc.

Cody Hata from Kiwi Furniture Movers Motorsport Team has been quite the consistent campaigner too in the now acquired ex-Jamie Fox car, and as a result has picked up some good results along the way.

Division sponsor Pokeno Auto Centre along with its driver Brett Parsons Racing 69H Modified, Aiden Crawford, 47GM Modified - Reuben Brown and Kane Botherway from KBR have all earned their stripes as consistent peddlers in season 25/26 too.

As has Sam Keeling from Rocket Racing completing the top 10 rout with a strong showing in the second half of the season.

Be sure to join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Tuesday night from 7:30pm, to find out who will be the Roger Bertram Medalist winner for season 25/26 🏁

ALAN WAKELING TOP - 10 (before Easter cut off)

Reacquainting ourselves with the Alan Wakeling Medalist Top 10 before the Easter Weekend cut off, here is how the points looked before the points went into secrecy 👀

Topping the charts before the break is the always popular American Jonathan Allard Motorsports, will he hold the points lead until the winner is announced next Tues night? That is the big question 🤔

Hot on his tail is the impressive Zackary Sokol Racing in second, and not too far behind him is Jacob Mcintyre from BMAC Racing Team in third.

The surprise package in season 25/26 has been Gus Dawson, likewise Josh Buchanan Motorsport too ensuring they've done enough to be in top 10 for majority of the season.

Connor Rangi Motorsport has been consistent too, much the same for Rodney Wood Racing, the ex- Superstock driver making the track is always immaculate at Baypark Speedway.

Matt Leversedge Motor Sport, Keaton Dahm and your current NZ Champion Daniel Thomas Racing round out the top 10.

Be sure to join Booker, Kinser and I on the Trackside Show over at Kokpit Racing And Media next Tuesday night from 7:30pm, to find out who will be the Alan Wakeling Medalist winner for season 25/26 🏁
