🎉The 2025 Canterbury Club Cash Series is a wrap! 🎉

Our inaugural Champion team has been carved in stone, or in this case dyed in plastic!

But firstly, from the organizing team of Jamie, Hayden and James we’d like to say a few thanks to certain people and groups who without their help and support, we couldn’t have brought this entire concept and series to life from what was at the time an ambitious idea between a couple of egotistical competitors over a few beers and banter.

A big thanks to all of you, the players! Without you this could have never taken off the way it has! When we brainstormed this over 6 months ago, we never thought we’d see 11 teams of 10+ players eager to sign up and be part of this ambitious idea of ours! We greatly appreciate your support, passion and understanding at times during the series. This is what grass roots disc golf is all about and we’re happy to have been able to facilitate a different take on disc golf for our local community that has been adopted by all with excitement and enthusiasm! We hope you’ve all enjoyed it and most importantly made or strengthened friendships in the local disc golf scene! 👏

We’d also like to thank our key supporters this series:
• Disc Daddies - NZ
• The Back Nine
• Christchurch Disc Golf
• NZDSS
You’ve all helped and supported us in your own ways either personally or professionally on and off the fairways, so thank you for you support and helping us make this happen! 👏

And finally, a HUGE thank you to Ewan Craig! The man, the myth, the backbone of disc golf events in Christchurch, Canterbury and further afield. We never asked for your assistance or help throughout this series but nor did we have to, that in itself speaks volumes for the passion, love and commitment you have for disc golf in Otautahi and Aotearoa!

Not only did we get the privilege of being test subjects to your creation and refinement of “Ewan the Hole” Basket at each event this series, but you were always there first thing, to assist us in setting up and last to leave to at dusk helping us to pack down over the entire series.

We couldn’t thank you enough for your time and energy that was never asked for but willingly provided over the series, so thought it was only fitting for all you’ve given to our sport locally, that there should be a trophy in your name that embodies you and your spirit for disc golf. Therefore, we coined the Canterbury Club Clash Series Championship Trophy – The Craig Championship Disc, in your recognition. 🏆

After all this series is all about uplifting grass roots disc golf in Canterbury, getting out there rain or shine (be it only in a tee and shorts) and giving it one hell of a go alongside your friends, and enjoying the laughs and banter along the way!

Cheers Ewan, you bloody legend! 🫡

For those of you who didn’t manage to catch a glimpse of the Craig Championsip Disc in all it’s glory, (Dyed by no other than your local custom dye experts, Discofever, thanks also team!). You’ll be able to see it for yourself sometime soon on the wall at NZDSS - your go to local discgolf shop, because yes, you do need another disc to make your game better!😉

With that all said, put your hands together for your 2025 Canterbury Club Clash Series Champions and inaugural winners of the Craig Championship Disc:

🎉🏆⛓️The Chain Gang⛓️🏆🎉

Lead by no other than their charismatic captain Christian Gallen himself. But it takes a team to win this series and what a team they were! They may have played themselves down as a casual rag tag bunch of semi-retired post athletic dads + Junior World Champion, but they sure know still how to throw and put up a great fight this entire series, whilst importantly having good laugh doing so!
Cheers Team! We hope you to see you back out there again next year to try and go back to back!

Overall Placings:
🥇Chain Gang
🥈Bros for Change
🥉Trench Cannons
4th Disc Daddies - NZ
5th The Back Nine 's Front Nine
6th The Back Nine 's Back Nine
7th Birdie Gang
8th Disc Space
9th Dingers
🥄 Par-Timers

That’s right, we said it! We will be back next year!

📝 But to ensure we can deliver what the people want, over the coming weeks stay tuned for a small review/ survey coming your way. This is a great opportunity for you all to have a say and to give us valuable feedback/opinions regarding the series this year, so we can fine tune it and make next year even better!

🛞 But because we know you all can’t stand surveys and paperwork, but you all love a gamble and spinny wheel… Everyone that played in the series that fills out the review/ survey will go into the draw to win a circular shaped object kindly donated from one of our organisers disc vault… So be sure to be in to win it!

Much like our Ace Kitty winner from the finals, ensuring he didn’t have to gamble on his luck, by instead throwing in a 106m ace off a last second ‘oh yeah, f**k it, I’ll just throw that disc’ moment! Congrats Kalib-Alan Kokiri-Leach on bagging yourself a lovely ace and the $190 pot. 💸

With all that said, thanks again to all, and until next season, play some more rounds, practice that putting, and better that banter!🫡

⛓💨Warrenhammer 40k💨⛓

The Winds of Warren whipped up quite the windy warzone for the Warrenhammer 40k, the final qualifying event for the Canterbury Club Clash Series this past Sunday. However, with the sun out and guns out (Mohawk), all competitors took on the challenge to hopefully secure not only their teams pole positioning, but also their own fate inside their teams top 6 to go forward into the championship round.

So, to cut to the chase, The results from this event:

🥇Congratulations to Azza (Azzatar - The last airbender) for taking out the Singles round with a very well-played -6!
🏆And a well-played sir, goes to the Trench Cannons team who won the battle of Warrenhammer!
⚽️As for hole 19’s mini game, the new kid on the block George Stiller took out our football mini goal shooting challenge! Whilst it appeared others forgot how to use their feet or were never taught how to kick a ball!
♠️An ace was also shot by Andrew Inch, who unfortunately didn’t cash out because he never cashed in. A friendly reminder you gotta be in it to win!

💸And on that note, the $110 ace kitty that will be carried into the finals must go! And to make it fair for all, anyone who has played throughout the season and attends the Championship Finals will have the opportunity to enter the final must go ace kitty pot! ($5 standard entry) because if an ace is not thrown in the rounds of play, the winner will be decided by a spin of the wheel of fortune with anyone who entered on the day a given opportunity to take it all! Therefore, it is further encouraged those who didn’t make the top 6 to come down and support/ caddie as there may be something more for you to take home 😊

As the regular season now comes to an end, we’d like to congratulate the following season winners:
🥇POTS (Player of the Season); and living up to his name, Craig Gold takes the Gold!
🏆TOTS (Team of the Season): Chain Gang
🎖 PAR-ticipation Award (Player closest to Par for the overall season): Mike Innes (0)
🔥CAMEO (Best Score of the season): Jasper Van Der Meer

And so, with that concludes the regular season rounds of qualifying in preparation for the big dance!

Now the moment we’ve all been waiting for is on the horizon, which teams and who will be going head-to-head in the finals on 30 November at Ascot Park is now decided. This will play out on a modified course layout. No more short stuff, no more gimme birdies, every stroke will need to be earned!

However, if you have not made your teams top 6, we still heavy encourage you to come support, caddy and cheer on your fellow players and hopeful champions as they go head-to-head in what will hopefully be a sphincter clenching battle of the best. And if that wasn’t encouragement enough, all 129 individual players who competed throughout the season will receive a small token of appreciation from us for your support and participation for making this inaugural series happen, On top of the other team and individual prizes/ awards!

📡More details and info to follow in the coming weeks regarding the Finale, so please stayed tuned! Until then, practise those putts, condition those caddies, and most importantly have fun in the sun out there! 🌤

Even though it's a team based event, everyone loves some individual fame and recognition. In all fairness this ladder should be called the heavy shoulders ladder :D These featured individuals sure do pull their weight and then some!

Here are the current Top 10 Live Ladder results after round 2!

We suspect Hayden and Christian might be out there at Bottle right now under the cover of darkness planting a few more trees to get in Jaye's way haha!

💥🌋☢️☠️ASCOTAGEDDON! ☠️☢️🌋💥
She was colder than a penguin’s nut sack at the commencement to Round 2 of the Canterbury Clash Club Series @ Ascot Park! But as the day kicked off and the first be big bombs were thrown things quickly started to heat up on the fairways of Ascot Park. 🐧

The singles round was played out across the family friendly shorted yellow course. And as was expected it copped an absolute hiding! With 85% of the field going under par. And a -14 flaming hot sauce score, chalked up on the board by Jasper Van Der Meer! 🔥

The feature hole 19 served for some good laughs for the first round of play as well. Featuring this round as a golf chipping CTP. You know that other kind of golf played with a stick and ball in a one size too small polo. This paid homage to the origins of courses history previously being a 9-hole golf course and all players got three attempts to slice, cut and chip themselves up as close as they could to the flag. Congratulations to Simon Edwards for taking this down, we think you might play the wrong kind of golf mate! 🏌️

A BBQ Feed was generously put on for some small koha by Back Nine’s Mark Paku, who may the bias in me say, puts on one hell of a spread! Turns out Bacon Butties go down a treat on a brisk winter’s day! And damn those sammies slapped! Dinner at yours sometime soon bro? 🥪

As is the format for this series round two doubles were to follow. It’s never going to get old that feeling of anxiety and excitement in the air as everyone gathers around Jamie, his score board and random number generator to see their fates sealed with whom from their team of so-called teammates they’ll be paired with to do battle next, Haha! I say ‘so called’ because amongst all the yes’s and yay’s, there are so many sighs and instantly heavily looking shoulders! 😔

Doubles were played out across the white standard layout of the course. This time the course finally earned some of its respect back. However, many a good score was still posted. With the hot round of -12 shot by 3 pairs. 👍

On the topic of respect, there was one hole and its creator that did not get the respect they are normally graced with though, haha! F*** You Ewan was muttered quite a bit on Hole 18, Ewans infamous hole – ‘EWAN THE HOLE’ an elevated basket, which as previously mentioned will feature on hole 18 at every event of the series. And as was written in the stars and so will be, continues to grow taller each event! 🤡

This round standing at about 3m in the air much to the frustration of anyone who found themselves parked off their drive directly below it, for what followed was more of a basketball layup than a putt attempt for the birdie. Ewan though took great pleasure in watching from afar his latest and greatest edition of his creation, taking stroke after stroke on many a poor soul. And we know he got a kick out of this, because a little birdie told us there’s to be a crane in the basket’s future too… 💀

And the misery only continued for one player of the day who shot the only ACE on the day on hole 9, with little celebration as they were quickly asked and reminded by their card mates, they didn’t buy into the ace kitty! Lesson learnt I’d say! Therefore, the ACE kitty will kick off with $45 in it when we take to the battle grounds of Bottle Lake for the next event in the series, The Bottle Royale II.

🥇Chain Gang took down the win this round however The Bros for Change team still sit pretty at the top of the ladder, maintaining their small margin of a lead overall. Chain Gang's round win helps them overtake the Disc Daddies, and the Front Nine and Back Nine also begin their climb on the ladder. A fair bit of jostling within teams Top 6 also occurred and the next event will surely be moving day for some, whilst others look to cement their names at the top of their teams ladder.

Can anyone go tree kick free? Who will hit the lines within pines? Only time will tell, for up next is the Bottle Royale! 🌲

Stay tuned for more information and the next event page coming soon, but in meanwhile play some more rounds, practice that putting, and better that banter!

🥏The Inaugural first event of the Canterbury Club Clash Series is in the bag! 🎒
The Jellie Jubilee, lived up to it's festive name! 🥳
With the weather gods on our side, we got to see over 90 familiar faces and plenty new take to the most played course in NZ and the home of disc golf in Christchurch.

🙃The mornings play started off with a singles round of play, with individuals’ results not only contributing towards the team’s average but giving them their first team seedings as well. The hot score rounds certainly served as the heavy shoulders for most teams, as many struggled to shake off the early morning dust and whatever else was consumed the Satdee evening prior!

♠️One player was not dusty however bagging herself the Ace on Hole 12 and surprisingly the only Ace of the day, walking away with the kitty all to herself, much to the disgust of her ‘not so better half’ in this case, ha-ha! Congratulations Tania Thompson ‘yeah, the girls!’

⛅️A well-earned lunch break followed, with some top shelf banter and s**t yarn, enjoyed by all under a blue blazer of a day, in the towering shadow of Ewans Hole. (The feature hole, a 6 foot raised basket.) Ewans hole will be making an appearance at every event in this series.

🥧With bodies stuffed full of pies, V and whatever else one could find to consume, (Shout out to Aorangi bakery ) the athletes gathered in around the organizers to learn their fate and weather they'd be the heavy shoulders or the backpack for the second round of play.... doubles. 🫂

It seems the secret to unlocking athlete peak performance is a pie and V, oh and also having the ability to have someone else shoot a second shot for yah too. Because Jellies short but technical par threes copped some abuse this round. With plenty of Birdies a chirping and bounds of laughter across the course. The hot doubles round score of -16 was posted by the iconic duo of Jason and Kalib in what can be said is practically their own backyard by now.

🍭Alongside all the serious stuff we also ran a mini competition as a hole 19 feature. This consisted of a team quiz a chance to guess the number of Jellie Beans in the Jar. (201 to be exact) Mason Le Breton one of our youngest competitors on the day, took home the jar with a guess as accurate as his putting on the day of 203. So, it turns out, although you can take the kid out of the candy store for the day to play disc golf, you can’t take the candy out of the kid! Well done, Mase!

👑And finally, what you’ve kept reading to this point to know, which team took down Jellie and earned the crown?...

🥇The Bros for Change team came out on top taking the crown of the Jellie Jubilee and in doing so taking the early pole position on the series ladder. However, they're not without unwanted company, with the Disc Daddies and Chain Gang close in their rear-view mirror as we make our way to Ascot in about 6 weeks’ time for the second event in the series:

💥🌋☢️☠️ASCOTAGEDDON! ☠️☢️🌋💥

Stay tuned for more information and the next event page coming soon, but in meanwhile play some more rounds, practice that putting, and better that banter, because the ASCOTAGEDDON is inevitable!
