Matira Safari - Cancelled

It is with regret that we have decided to cancel this year's Matira Safari. There has been significant rainfall this week at Matira and ground conditions are not in our favour. Rain is also forecast to continue into and through the weekend.

We will offer all participants a full refund. Please provide your bank account NAME and NUMBER. It will take some time for us to process these refunds so your patience will be appreciated.

We are of course hugely disappointed not being able to host everyone for the event as planned. However, it's not all bad. We are definitely going to run the event at some time in the future this coming summer. Once we have finalised details we will advertise the date to all entrants first, before advertising to the general public.

On behalf of the Cozzie Four Wheelers and Matria community, thank you again for your continued support and enthusiasm for our event.

Matira Safari Update!

As most will be aware, there is a tropical cyclone heading towards New Zealand. Our committee has monitored this situation closely over the past few days.

Unfortunately, we are postponing our safari by one week until April 18th to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. 🫶✨

Over Waitangi weekend a handful of Cozzie Four Wheeler members went for a road trip to Whangamomona Bridge to Somewhere. Those who went had an amazing time, having the opportunity to see some amazing sights, drive through plenty of cool tunnels as well as see some pretty rickety old bridges!

Who guessed safari?
Cozzie Four Wheelers are hosting another safari! If you came along last year then you already know that Matira is full of beautiful farmlands with sights through working farms and peaks with great views. This year we have been fortunate enough to gain access to more land - meaning it's an entirely different route to last year!
Make sure you get in quick to secure a space!

Cozzie Four Wheelers took to the bush to celebrate Christmas together!
From our club to you, we wish you all Meri Kirihimete, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!🎅🥳

👀 P.S. who can spot the clip where something went a little bit wrong with one of our trucks?

The members of Cozzie Four Wheelers attended a winch training event that was put together by the club. We were lucky enough to learn from two members who used to compete in winch challenges themselves, bringing forth their wisdom and knowledge to ensure we keep ourselves, our trucks, and everyone around us safe.

It was a fantastic turn out with spaces for members to try new and different winching techniques as well as test out equipment they haven't had to use yet!

Some of the things we discussed were:
✨Steel vs soft shackles
Soft shackles are lightweight, flexible and often safer to use. While steel shackles are more durable - they pose a projectile risk when under tension.
✨Pulley blocks vs winch rings
Winch rings are compact and lightweight, even handling similar load ratings to a pulley block.
✨Double and triple line pulls
As you can see in the video, our members had the opportunity to practice these. Double and triple line pulls use double the rope but they increase a winches pulling power.
✨Safety controls and risks
Safety measures to be aware of include checking the cable for fraying or damage before winching, wearing gloves when handling the cable, using a dampener to reduce recoil if the cable fails, and most importantly keeping a safe distance to the side of the rope - 3 meters!

Happy and safe winching everyone!

Last weekend Cozzie Four Wheelers had five trucks go out for an adventure in Waiuku Forest. Waiuku Forest is a sand-dune pine forest that offers a mix of gravel, sand and dirt tracks with the option for technical areas to challenge your skills! With hill climbs, tight squeezes and some steep downhills, we all had a great day out and look forward to the next one.
If trips like this peak your interest, come along to a club meeting on the last Tuesday of each month to see what we've got planned next!

Over the past month Cozzie Four Wheelers have worked alongside Coastcare - Waikato to plant thousands of dunes in the blown out sand banks at Port Waikato.

Dunes play an important role in protecting our coastline. They help prevent erosion by acting as natural barriers that absorb wind and wave energy, while the plants' roots catch and bind the sand, reinforcing the sandbanks.

Remember how vital dunes are to our coastal areas, and next time you're at the beach - please keep off the dunes!

We have recently held a friendly challenge day on private property. We had 12 trucks from our club, Cozzie Four Wheelers, and 12 trucks from our neighbouring club, Manukau Four Wheel Drive Club.

Without the special permission of the landowners we would not be able to enjoy this incredible landscape. We are always very grateful to be provided these opportunities and this is a significant benefit of being a member of a 4WD club.

If you have a 4WD truck and never quite know where to take it, or want to be able to test your truck and your abilities, reach out to us via messaging on this page, or at [email protected] and come along on one of our trips.

Yesterday we held our first Safari since 2016 at Matira, which was a great success. We have all thoroughly enjoyed organising the event and hosting everyone.
We look forward to running events in the future at Matira and the surrounding districts.
