The 2026 UCI Junior Track World Championships brought together 47 nations, five days of racing and 22 rainbow jerseys.

Yet outside the velodrome, most people could not watch any of it.

There was no television coverage and no live stream. Supporters were left following timing screens, results and short clips after the fact.

The more important question is why this was allowed to happen at all.

UCI hosting documentation states that television production for the Junior Track World Championships is not compulsory, even though the UCI retains the electronic media rights.

That creates a difficult model for hosts already carrying the significant cost of staging an international championship.

This is not an argument for an Olympic-level broadcast operation.

It is an argument for something much simpler: every standalone UCI Junior Track World Championships should have a reliable live video feed.

If riders are travelling across the world to compete for rainbow jerseys, the world should be able to watch them.

What should the minimum broadcast standard be for a UCI World Championship?

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the parents that helped with the live streaming of the Junior Worlds last week. We really hope we brought enough attention to the importance of a live stream even if it’s just off an iPad in the stands.

For these riders this is the pinnacle of their youth career and a huge moment to be proud of, not everyone’s family and friends can make the trip. To then not even be able to watch? Appalling…

We really hope that this doesn’t happen again but if it does people take initiative and work together to broadcast such an amazing moment in these young athlete’s careers.

I hope this puts it all into perspective, it wasn’t fancy, it barely had sound, but it was enough. In future we hope the event takes this into consideration.
