Me: "Smile mo********er!"
Ello: "Like this?"

Once Ello brought out that big cheeser of his, he lit up the race.

Everyone was asking me "what did you do to make Ello smile so hard?"
Tricks of the trade 😉
Know your athlete.

Ello's run touched the hearts of more people than we could even fathom.

Privileged to be able to help him shine his light to the world.

It's an honour to be recognized in your own country.
Mind blowing to be recognized on the other side of the planet.

The backyard ultra mistake that I see limit performances over and over again when an athlete could have gone so much further.

Don't set that target.
You are probably gonna hit it, and you aren't likely to do much more after that.

Backyard ultra - are you durable enough to go the distance?

I just crewed Ello to 93 loops at Last Soul Ultra, and this is an integral part of his training.

Last Soul Ultra: The struggles of a crew chief

We are 74 hours in and I have not missed a single pit stop. So, that's 74 hours of micro naps between feeding, watering and clothing Ello before kicking him out on the next loop.

He's tired, I'm tired, we're all tired, and around around we go 🎶

The 40 hours of travel from New Zealand to Germany immediately before the race didn't help. I spent the first 36 hours just attempting to catch up on sleep debt. My fatigue was to the point of drinking coffees and red bulls and then falling asleep immediately after.

Now partially recovered on sleep, I'm attempting to make my brain work so I can write legible training plans for my athletes this week 😅

Last Soul Ultra update: Monday morning, five runners remain, loop 65 is underway.

The third night was a cycle of getting Ello in, and banking as much sleep as physically possible before feeding him and kicking him out on the next loop.

Nutrition and hydration has been perfect with only a couple of loops dropping below target. Food and fluid really has been going in without any challenges and also staying down once he consumes it.

What new challenges will arise as we head into daylight of the fourth day?

Now, we push to 300 miles.

Ello update at Last Soul Ultra

Loop 42 begins and the sun is up on Sunday morning

Ello has been sleeping really well through Saturday night and even falling deep asleep on the massage table which means we don't have to pick massage or sleep anymore. Now, we can have both.
