What a week of footy it has been, with many of our STARS boys showcasing their talents across New Zealand and Australia.

Khan Te Paea and Tommy Ngapera were trialling with the Dragons alongside Isaac Morrison-Fonoti, who also had trials with the Magpies, Sea Eagles, and Bears. Tipene Capper took the field for the Storm against the Roosters and Broncos, where he came up against our very own Deja Prince, who is now based in Brisbane and playing for the Broncos Juniors.

Meanwhile, a large group of our players, including Ezrah Bennett, Manawa Neho, Kahn Hori, Corbyn Campion, Amaziah Cassidy-Taha, Koa Wipatene, and Flynn Scott, were all involved in the Warriors trials in Wellington.

Their participation is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices they have all made to reach these opportunities. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them.

He Waka Eke Noa, STAR of the Year, Our highest Academy honour for 2026 - Ashlynn Dreaver ✨

This was an incredibly difficult award to choose, but Ashlynn’s consistency and commitment throughout the year have been undeniable. She never misses a training, gives 110 percent every time she turns up and is someone who can be trusted to step up and lead when called upon.

No matter what team she represents, Ashlynn carries the values of STARS with her. She is committed to the mahi, leads by example and shows the kind of character that has a positive influence on those around her.

Her hard work continues to open doors, with Ashlynn recently selected for the Under 14 Kōtiro New Zealand Māori team, an achievement we are incredibly proud of.

A special thank you to Ngahina and Ari Capper for gifting this meaningful award to our Academy.

Special Recognition Award 2026 - Tipene Capper ✨

Although Tipene has spent much of this year away at Hato Tipene, he continues to represent what it means to be a STAR. His commitment, growth and achievements both on and off the field have made him an inspiration to those coming through behind him.

This year has seen Tipene take another huge step in his journey, recently signing with the Melbourne Storm.

This special trophy was donated to STARS by Saphron Ngaia in 2025. The Māori hoe represents our journey as a collective - Moving forward through kotahitanga, respect and shared responsibility, with every person playing a part in keeping our kaupapa moving forward.

A huge thank you to Saphron for gifting such a meaningful taonga to our academy.

Game Changer Award 2026 - Caelin Millar ✨

This award recognises character, attitude, resilience and the way someone carries themselves through every challenge.

Caelin has embodied those qualities throughout the year. When things get tough, he digs in. He keeps showing up, keeps putting in the work and continues to demonstrate the commitment and character that represents STARS.

A huge thank you to Darron Rudkins from Game Changer for donating this special award to STARS and giving us the opportunity to recognise a young person who truly represents what it means to be a Game Changer.
