Just a reminder to all club members: If you’d like to play in the Skogs or Elizabeth Walker competitions in the the coming season, please put your names on the lists at the club (or let Jo know, and she can do it for you). It will show how many teams we should enter. Thank you to all those that have already done so.

Here’s proof that we are getting close to being back in action! Graham has cut greens 2 & 3 and also gave them a good double roll afterwards. We are very pleased with how they are coming along (we even rolled a few bowls down just to see how they’re running - and it’s not bad at all considering they’ve still got a month to go before opening). Under the guidance of our greens consultant, Warwick Frederikson, we have put a lot of work into getting the greens into tip top shape for the season. It’s exciting to be able to start seeing the results coming through now.

What a fantastic meal tonight put on by our awesome social committee! Great to have the chance to get together and catch up with everyone as the bowling season is now on the horizon. Beef casserole served with mashed potato, carrots, cabbage & silverbeet - and followed by fruit crumble and ice cream. Lots of full tums and happy people that’s for sure (especially those of us that had seconds - that were bigger than the firsts 😂)! Raffles were won by Raewyn Byers, Steve Tolley, & Donna Ross. Congratulations and thank you to Jane Ross, Rick Kennedy, Donna Ross, Diane Sinclair, & Joan Christensen all the planning and hard work in putting on such a great evening for everyone! 🥇

What a beautiful afternoon we had at the club yesterday, in celebrating the official re-naming of our ladies lounge, as ‘The Mary Harris Ladies Lounge’. It was made all the more special by having a large number of Mary’s family present to mark the occasion - including her 95 year old sister Barbara Clark (who is also an ex-member of Hokowhitu Bowling Club - and was the one that first introduced Mary & Peter to bowls). Also attending were Life Members Dave Robertson, Will Inman, and Peter Harris (who of course is also a Life Member). Honorary Members Dawn Morris, & Merle Thompson also came to join the occasion, and we are always pleased to enjoy their company at our get togethers. Further adding to that, it was a real delight to welcome Irene Ellis (past playing member, and now social member) back to the club for the afternoon, and nice to see Janet Morris, and Gerald Gregory back with us too. They joined with a good contingent of club members and friends to make it a very enjoyable and sociable afternoon for everyone. Following a short speech by Peter, & followed by Club President, Paul - the ribbon was then cut by them both to mark the official ‘opening’ and re-naming of the lounge. A big thank you to all those that helped put the afternoon tea together (which was really great!), and to Jane Ross for looking after the bar duties. I must also acknowledge all the effort that Glenis Mobberley went to in rehanging photographs and, arranging the new plaque and photograph above the lounge door. It looks really good in place, and it’s nice to think Mary continues to smile on all of us and keep a watchful eye on proceedings at the club.
