Three great days of racing for the MBC sailors at the Top of the South Regatta in Nelson!
The MBC sailors enjoyed three excellent days of racing in Nelson, competing against some of the best teams from across the South Island. Light winds and strong Nelson tides created challenging and tactical conditions throughout the event.
The MBC Sailing Team put together a strong performance across eight rounds of racing, finishing equal second on race wins and placing third on countback. The team recorded wins against every other team in the fleet except regatta winners Christ’s College — a fantastic effort.
Our sailors competing in the combined Colleges team also showed great resilience and learnt a huge amount over the three days, with several boys gaining their first experience leading and crewing boats at a team sailing regatta.
The team is straight back into training this week as they build towards the National Regatta in Whangārei this April.
A huge thank you to our generous sponsors and supporters who help make opportunities like this possible. Also, to all the support from the parents - thank you.
And finally, thanks to Nelson Bays Team Sailing for hosting an awesome regatta that provided great preparation for the South Island teams heading to Nationals.

Marlborough Colleges Sailing Club owns the 420s that Marlborough Boys College Sailing Team use for training, and MCSC is excited to welcome Churchill Private Hospital the newest member of their group of incredible local sponsors of their new 420 sailing dinghies.
By removing the financial barrier of dinghy ownership, MCSC provides young sailors across Marlborough with opportunities to develop strong technical sailing skills, teamwork, strategic thinking, and confidence on the water. Team sailing teaches our boys collaboration, communication, and quick decision-making—skills that serve them well both in competition and in life.
We are extremely grateful for Churchill Private Hospital Trust’s support of MCSC and thrilled to have them join the existing group of sponsors who make team sailing in Marlborough possible.
Churchill Trust joins TCC, Port Marlborough, Mitre 10 MEGA Marlborough, Wildlight, AM/PM Plumbing & Gas Ltd, O'Donnell Park Barging Limited, and The Marlborough College Charitable Foundation.
