Wilderwheels

Just took the new prototype scooty on a 300km source to sea adventure on the Clutha. Some biiig improvements over the last models. Turns out 12 inch wheels and disc brakes are a very nice time. More to come.

Finishing up the final piece of the new prototype. It is going to be quite the complex and exciting build. A big part of the joy in this project is trying new things and the mould used to create this part will once again challenge my skills and will hopefully create a template for future builds.

So good to get out into the crisp air for 20km of testing new scooty parts on the Hawea trail. Next time I'm out here in spring I'll definitely be packrafting back!

An exciting mold making session lies ahead. So nice to be in Queenstown with the amazing Barton Machine Works to machine some tightly toleranced connectors for a very satisfying fit!

I have been a bit slow on here lately, but progress is indeed being made in WilderWheels' new home - Queenstown, Aotearoa (aka paradise). Queenstown has an amazing community of inventors, tinkerers, makers, fabricators and all the other good things. They have helped me get back to the process of finishing those last couple of scoot hurdles and I now have some exciting new connectors that show a bunch of promise. Fingers crossed that one of these could be the one.

If you have any other ideas for quickly connecting carbon tubes together in a lightweight way in a high torque environment, I am allllll ears 👂

First sail, dinghy, hike, scoot mission at Dooragan National Park, climbing North Brother and then to a red hot scoot down the mountain.

Travelling on a boat is actually a lot easier with a scoot. You can get to far off national parks and other adventures and it squidges down into nothing.
