🏉 SCHOOL RUGBY IS BACK FOR TERM 4!

Looking for a fun, active way for your child to finish the school day?

Our After School Rugby sessions are coming to schools across the Queenstown Lakes, giving kids the chance to get active, build their rugby skills, make new friends and have loads of fun!

Whether your child is brand new to rugby or already loves the game, our sessions are designed to help them develop their skills, confidence and teamwork in a fun, positive environment.
We will be running intro to tackle sessions for anyone new to the game, whilst also developing and growing skills to exisiting players.

📍 Held on school fields across the Queenstown Lakes

For our Year 5 & 6 players who are ready for an extra challenge, we’re also offering Advanced Rugby Sessions at the Queenstown Events Centre every Thursday afternoon.

These sessions provide an opportunity for players who want to push themselves, develop their skills further and take their rugby to the next level.

It's been a while since we've put up any content! 🏉🏉
Whilst working on tackle confidence, we look at getting into good body height, our bodies as close to our opposition as possible before wrapping the arms, and working hard to stay on our feet and use the strength we have in our legs. This has stopped us from falling to the ground too quickly and losing the impact we can have when going into contact.

Three different coloured cones are in front of the tackler, they need to react to which colour is called before turning around and making the hit. Touching the cone first helps us to get into that lower body position and make it more of a habit to go low and drive upwards with using our leg strength. 🏉🏉

☀️ School holidays are here! ☀️

Let’s be honest… keeping kids entertained for two full weeks can be a challenge!

But while the weather is still on our side, it’s the perfect time to get them off screens and outdoors, making the most of everything our amazing region has to offer

Fresh air, movement, and play aren’t just fun — they’re crucial for development, confidence, and wellbeing

Too much screen time can have real long-term effects on a child’s brain function, focus, and behaviour, so now’s a great chance to reset and get active!

A quick reminder why a warm up and stretch is important before any exercise!
Last weekend at the Highlanders pre season game vs Moana Pasifika, I was "bullied" into taking part in the Dad Dash at half time!
About 15 meters into my (false) start, I tweaked my hammy going for an all out sprint, determined to be the one crossing that half way line first. Also determined not to look like "that dad" to the crowd by pulling up early, I continued to finish the race and you can see me clutching my leg with instant regret.
The rest of my weekend was spent struggling to walk anywhere or get in and out of the car so easily, and I'm still feeling it 5 days later 😂
Remember Dads, running a race with no warm up after sitting pitch side for the last hour is a recipe for disaster!
