NZ Deaf Rugby Union

I would like to share some very special and positive news with my Deaf community, family, and friends also Deaf Rugby Communities.

On Friday night, I was incredibly honoured to receive an award from my workplace, Masterpet, at our staff function. Out of 447 staff members, I was very humbled and proud to be selected as the winner of the award: “Always Searching for Innovation.”

I received a beautiful trophy, certificate, lovely messages and certificates from staff, as well as a $500 voucher. It was such a meaningful and emotional moment for me.

It has been an absolute privilege working for Masterpet for the past 27 years. Throughout my journey, I have been proud to support Deaf Awareness and teach basic New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) to staff. It has been great to see so many staff now able to sign and communicate with both myself and my Deaf colleague. This shows the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and people making the effort to connect with the Deaf community.

I would also like to give a very special thank you to my beautiful wife, who has always been my strength, supporter, and greatest love. I truly could not have achieved this without her love, encouragement, patience, and unwavering support over the years.

I would also like to acknowledge my best mate, Clive Morgan, who sadly passed away last year. This award is for both of us. Without the love and support of my wife, and the friendship, encouragement, and belief from Clive, this would not have been possible.

Thank you everyone for your support throughout the years. This award is not only a personal achievement, but also a reminder of the importance of inclusion, accessibility, Deaf awareness, and community.
