Built on the proud traditions of Wests Rugby and Old Boys University, we’re creating something special for the next generation of young players.

The OBU Year 6 151's faced the Pōneke Warriors in a fast and physical match at Kilbirnie. Plenty of Pōneke tries and some well earnt OBU runs too.

Both teams showed great spirit, awesome to see the passing and communication on the field.

Congratulations to our PoD - Konrad, some great tackles and showed resilience getting back on the field after an injury

Big day out for our OBU Year 6 crew at the Upper Hutt community rugby festival Sunday! 🏉💙

For the festival, we had a combined team made up of players from the Lions and the 151, who came together brilliantly to represent the club across four games against Petone, Eastbourne, Stokes Valley and Poneke.

A huge thanks to the players, coaches, managers, whānau and supporters who helped make the day happen. Events like this are what junior rugby is all about — teamwork, effort, learning and enjoying the game together.

Well done to our Y6 Goats team! 👏

A great Friday night for some of our Year 5 OBU Juniors as they played the curtain raiser match for the Hurricanes before forming a guard of honour to welcome the teams onto the field. It was wet, it was windy and it was incredible!!

A massive thank you to Lucy from Wellington Rugby for this awesome opportunity!

After a wet and windy end to the week, Ian Galloway delivered a great setting for rugby, even if the ground was a little soft underfoot. Conditions called for teamwork, resilience, and a willingness from everyone to get stuck in—and both sides delivered.

The Panthers made an energetic start and were rewarded with the opening try. The OBU West Roosters responded well, showing growing confidence with ball in hand to level the score at 5–5 by halftime. It was a tightly contested first spell, with both teams showing positive intent across the park.

The second half saw the OBU West Roosters try a few positional changes, offering players the chance to experience different roles and contribute in new ways. The adjustments worked well, opening opportunities and encouraging strong teamwork right across the squad. It remained a spirited and even contest, with both teams’ displaying determination, sportsmanship, and developing skills.
The OBU West Roosters finished strongly, but just as importantly, every player contributed to a match played in great spirit. Matches like this highlight the enjoyment, inclusiveness, and shared learning that rugby is all about.

Overall, a fantastic morning of rugby, with both teams showing what makes the game so enjoyable: teamwork, respect, and the chance for everyone to be involved.

It was a drizzly but warm Monday morning as the Year 6 OBU team arrived at Ngāti Toa Domain for their very first 7s tournament—and they certainly did the club proud!
Facing a strong Norths side in their opening game was a challenging start, but the team showed real resilience. They bounced back in game 2 for a hard-fought draw against Waikanae, followed by an awesome win in Game 3 against Para Plim Kōwhai.
There were some huge tackles, awesome team-work, powerful breakaway tries, and nail-biting moments that kept supporters on their toes!
With no break, the team headed straight into Game 4 against Para Plim Whero. Exhausted but determined, they dug deep, kept their heads up, and pushed through to a very close finish.

Huge effort and outstanding team spirit—awesome mahi, OBU Year 6!

Anō te pai!
