We’re running another WGHS Sailing Team carpark fundraiser at Okara Marina - $20 a park, less than 400m from the stadium, with all proceeds supporting our upcoming Interdoms sailing regatta (NZ against Australia). ⛵💙

Northland are defending the Ranfurly Shield against Waikato, so let’s pack the stadium, get behind the Taniwha and help keep the Shield in the North! 💙

Interdoms will bring together the top three female and male secondary school sailing teams from Australia, alongside the top three female and top three male teams from New Zealand - qualifying to compete is a huge achievement for the Whangārei Girls High sailing team.

Sundays training included a very early start and a change of scenery as the girls headed down to Akarana to train with Westlake Girls. ⛵ It was a great opportunity to sail against a strong team and get in some valuable race practice.

The weather was a bit average today but the girls got the session done⛵

With half the team out sick, it was a smaller training crew - but the girls who could make it still got out there and trained in the cold, wet and generally miserable conditions.

The girls will be sailing if its raining at Interdoms so the training is the same :-).

Partway through the session the rainbow made an appearance so thats a better photo than a photo with a grey, bleak sky ! 🌈

Cold hands, gusty winds and another training session in the bank! ⛵️🥶

The girls left school early this afternoon to make the most of the remaining daylight - although thankfully, the days are slowly getting longer!

The session started in around 7 knots, before the breeze picked up and built to gusts of approximately 15 knots by the end. By the time the girls came off the water, it was just 14°C and definitely feeling fresh!

Another valuable couple of hours on the water as the team continues preparing for Interdoms.

Next training is Sunday - and all the girls are hoping for slightly warmer hands☀️⛵️

19th July - Sunday’s forecast was for light winds, and while it was a cloudy start, there was thankfully enough breeze for the girls to get another valuable training session in.

Every session counts as the team continues preparing for Interdoms. Different conditions, different challenges- but always another opportunity to learn, improve, and work together.

The Whangārei Girls’ High School Sailing Team has qualified for the 2026 Interdominion Championships- an international event bringing together the top three male and top three female secondary-school sailing teams from both New Zealand and Australia.

Our team trains out of little Parua Bay in Whangārei making this an incredible achievement for a small, close-knit sailing community. The event will be held in October 2026 at the prestigious Royal Akarana Yacht Club in Auckland, home of blue-water sailing and New Zealand’s largest sailing academy.

As a high-profile international secondary-school sailing event, it offers businesses valuable opportunities for brand exposure through team clothing, event photography, social media, community promotion and any media coverage generated around the competition.

We are raising approximately $15,400 to get the full team to Auckland. This covers coaching, travel, van hire, accommodation, entry fees and team gear.

Depending on your sponsorship package, your business can receive:
