Navratri - nine nights of celebrating nine form of the divine Goddess Shakti.

A unique festival that celebrates womanhood in all its glory. A time when we come together to understand the role and relevance of women in all our lives. And how better to celebrate women than through dance.

India in all its glory comes together for 9 night with garba and dandiya in the west and dhunuchi nach in the east. Classical dancers in the south and the north pay respects to their ghungroos and Goddess Saraswati.

The 10th day of Navratri is considered auspicious to begin learning dance, music or any art form.

This year I got to live through the richness of Navratri experiencing so many different flavors. Starting off with a natyarchana (dance offering), followed by a night of dandiya with my daughter at the very ground I grew up learning dandiya, followed an extraordinary dance recital by Ahalya Performing Arts and then moving on to hosting a beautiful Baithak and Ghungroo Pooja for my students at Deepam. I ended this beautiful festival with a night of garba at the Annapoorneshwari Temple Hosanadu

Every night of this auspicious festival has been a blessing. And I had to put it all together to share it with u!

Raag and Taal 2026
With the blessing of Saraswati and our Gurus we opened our studio doors to dancers, parents and art lovers for our annual Baithak sharing. Every year we add to this beautiful event and every little detail is a tradition we hope to carry forward. Starting off with a Ghungroo Pooja followed by performances by all our students and teachers. Bridging the gap between audience and performers, this informal setting is a foundational platform we extend to all our students.

Every year we host a guest artist and this year we had the gracious Priya Pai Kamath and her talented singer from The Kamaths they filled out studio with melody and a vibe that was palpable by all. We are deeply touched by the time and effort they poured into their performance.

Raag and Taal always ends with a huge, delicious cake sent to us with so much love!! So thank u to the one who doesn’t like to be named! ♥️♥️

Hamsadhwani in the company of pine trees on a very cold morning.

I’ve been that person who has cringed at dancers on Instagram. I’ve also been that person who has wondered why would someone put all that effort to dance for 15 seconds. But I’ve grown to understand that isn’t always about ‘why’ but also about the ‘why not’.

This reel has made this trip an unforgettable experience for me. Waking up on a frigid morning and getting myself ready to shoot is a very different level of commitment I didn’t know I had in me. So sometimes it’s nice to test your limits to see how far u will go beyond your comfort zone to create an unforgettable memory 😇

So to all my students who complain about the effort of waking up and dressing up….. do it because your dance deserves that extra bit of love and effort. 🙂

Carrying my dance along wherever I go. And with sights this pristine, how can one not want to break into a routine.
Your art is the most spectacularly unique thing about u. You are one from the rare breed who has found a way to create beauty in this world. Don’t shy away from shinning your light. Dance at every opportunity u find. And watch how the world stops and welcomes your art.

Too cold to take off my shoes but never stopped my feet.
