WESTERN PROVINCE SCHOOL RUGBY LEAGUE COMPETITION LAUNCHED

Western Province is taking the lead in improving rugby league pathway in the province with the launching of the school boys and girls rugby league.

‎Schools in South Fly district was the first to launch with the collaborative effort of teachers and parents including the community.

‎Their efforts were boosted with the assistance of the Western Province Rugby League Board (WPRB), under Chairman Bina Gigiba, and the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Community Rugby, through it's Development and Pathway Manager, Sagu Ank.

‎Mr Gigiba said the WPRLB was in the process of bidding for a team at the elite level in the ExxonMobil Digical Cup competition and the schools boys league ticks off one of the requirements.

‎He also announced the bid also being fully supported by the Western Provincial Government through the Governor, Hon Taboi Awi Yoto.

‎"With also the PNG Chief team ready for inclusion in the Australia National Rugby League (NRL), development of rugby league pathway for our school kids is important.
‎"Your education is equally important as well as your participation in the sport.

‎"With the improvement in the code, it can take you to places around the world. I encourage you to put effort in your trainings couple with commitment and discipline," Mr Gigiba urged the participating school boys and girls.
‎Similar sentiments were given by Mr Ank, assuring the schools of PNGRFL's full backing in terms of logistics and technical support.

‎The launching over the weekend on Saturday saw the presentation of uniforms to all participating schools and the first off-season play offs.

‎Both school boys and girls took the field, fully attired with their new uniform sets, brandishing a colourful start towards the season.

‎The launching now paves way for a well coordinated season in South Fly coinciding with the Daru Rugby League competitions.
