Today, the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee stands with our people across the country as we observe the public holiday in remembrance of the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
We remember a leader whose courage and vision guided Papua New Guinea to Independence and helped shape the united, diverse nation we call home. His legacy lives on in every community striving for opportunity, in every young person daring to dream, and in every athlete who carries our flag with pride.
On this special day, we honour his life of service and pay tribute to all those leaders, past and present, who have worked to build our nation.
From all of us at the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, we say thank you, Grand Chief, for the path you paved. May we continue to serve our country in the same spirit of unity, humility and hope. π΅π¬
