Papua New Guinea-born Brisbane Broncos young gun Xavier Coates has been named in the train on squad for Queensland’s state of origin team.

It's a much-needed dose of good news for the Broncos who have slumped to the bottom of the ladder after normal round of competition.

Coates whose mother Edith Hui is from Iokea in the Gulf Province represented Papua New Guinea in 2019.

He plays as a winger for the Brisbane Broncos in the Australian National Rugby League and joins teammate Patrick Carrigan as part of the train on squad.
