Why Sepak Takraw Deserves a Place in the Spotlight?

Despite earning international recognition, sepak takraw remains unfamiliar to most Filipinos. Our national team has brought honor to the country, yet their achievements are often unnoticed. Why? Because from a young age, our youth are introduced mainly to Western sports like basketball and volleyball, while native sports like sepak takraw are sidelined.

This lack of exposure limits choice. It’s not that young people don’t like sepak takraw—they’re simply not given the chance to try it. Without support, facilities, or media attention, these sports fade from view, along with the talent that could have been.

All sports deserve recognition. Children should be given the freedom to explore a wide range of activities—including those rooted in our culture. By supporting every sport and athlete, we don’t just build winners—we preserve identity, pride, and potential.

Let’s give our youth the full spectrum of choices. Let’s not forget the games that are truly ours.
