The Physio Therapist is performing a pre race sports massage and joint mobilisation technique in order for them to maximise their performance in the up and coming race. Normally the treatment is performed atleast 2 days or 48 hours before the race.

We found no evidence that massage improves measures of strength, jump, sprint, endurance or fatigue, but massage was associated with small but statistically significant improvements in flexibility and DOMS. sports massage improves performance directly, it may somewhat improve flexibility and DOMS.
Why is Sports Physio Massage is good for Athletes?
Massage therapy has also been known to decrease delayed onset muscle soreness, in addition to stiffness and fatigue after a game, practice or exercise of any kind. Massages improve an athlete's range of motion, soft tissue function, athletic performance and makes them more aware of their muscle tone.

Congratulations to our lele for winning her age group in the 18 to 24 female with the 8th fastest swim split out of 560 triathletes in the recently concluded Dumaguete Triathlon
She had 2 sports physio massage prior to her race for preparing her in the swim bike and run leg,
One of the most worked muscle group are the quadriceps, hamstring, gluteal region and the gastrocsoleus area, especially when you worked on the bike and run leg.

The discomfort you feel during and after a massage is completely normal and, on the whole, it means it is working. But a sports massage should never cause you so much pain that you feel the need to tense up in order to bear it. If your muscles are tense then they won't be getting much of a benefit from the massage

Most elite athletes get at least one massage per week. For most amateur athletes who still take their sport and training seriously or regular gym-goers, once a week to once a fortnight is recommended. For most people who do regular light exercise once every two, three or four weeks is usually sufficient.
