# # HON. PROSPERO A. PICHAY JR. ACCEPTS CALL TO RUN FOR FIDE VICE PRESIDENT
Following the encouragement of colleagues and representatives from several chess federations who have witnessed his commitment to the development of the sport, **Hon. Prospero Arreza Pichay Jr.** has accepted the call to seek the position of **FIDE Vice President** in the **FIDE Elections 2026**.
Their encouragement grew from the work they have seen under his leadership—from staging international competitions and creating opportunities for players to strengthening cooperation within the global chess community.
After careful consideration, Hon. Pichay accepted the challenge with humility and a clear sense of responsibility. His decision reflects his willingness to share his experience beyond the Philippines and serve the wider international chess community.
The **National Chess Federation of the Philippines** is therefore proud to formally announce and fully support the candidacy of its President and Chairman for FIDE Vice President.
For many years, Hon. Pichay has worked to broaden opportunities in chess. His support has benefited not only Filipino athletes but also international players from **China, India, Mongolia, Vietnam, and several European countries** who have participated in tournaments and chess-development initiatives held in the Philippines.
Under his leadership, the country has welcomed numerous national and international competitions. These events have provided Filipino and foreign players with opportunities to compete, improve their ratings, pursue norms and titles, and build lasting friendships across cultures. He has likewise supported initiatives for young players, coaches, arbiters, organizers, and other chess professionals.
His candidacy is guided by a desire to encourage closer cooperation among FIDE Member Federations, strengthen grassroots and youth development, and create more opportunities for players—particularly those from developing chess nations.
He believes that every Member Federation, regardless of size or resources, should be able to develop its players, organize quality competitions, and participate meaningfully in international chess.
As a candidate for FIDE Vice President, Hon. Pichay hopes to share the Philippines’ experience in advancing chess through international partnerships, community-based initiatives, accessible competitions, and sustained support for players of different nationalities.
