JULY 20 | INTERNATIONAL CHESS DAY

Formalized by UNESCO in 1966, “International Chess Day” celebrates one of the world’s oldest board games.

Believed to originate from India in the 5th century, the game was originally referred to as “Chaturanga”. It spread out to Persia, from where it subsequently spread out to Europe, where the first modern tournament took place in London in 1851.
