Sports is very important in our life. It can make our life comfortable and happy.
It’s generally known that people who do physical exercises keep fit and healthy. More over taking up a sport has also many psychological benefits. Firstly,it relieves the stresses of everyday life and secondly,it helps individuals identify with a group and replace their loneliness with the security of belonging.

Playing games and sports provides participants with opportunities to develop leadership skills along with the development in communication and team building. These skills enable people to function effectively as leaders, as well. Playing and coaching sports activities, such as baseball, football, running, bicycling and swimming, helps participants learn to treat other competitors with respect, identify strengths and weaknesses, develop winning strategies and manage time effectively.

DID YOU KNOW...

The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, to condition young athletes during cold months. Naismith was a physical education instructor at YMCA International Training School (now known as Springfield College) in Springfield, Massachusetts. Upon the request of his boss, Naismith was tasked to create an indoor sports game to help athletes keep in shape in cold weather. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. He published 13 rules for the new game. He divided his class of eighteen into two teams of nine players each and set about to teach them the basics of his new game. The objective of the game was to throw the basketball into the fruit baskets nailed to the lower railing of the gym balcony. Every time a point was scored, the game was halted so the janitor could bring out a ladder and retrieve the ball. After a while, the bottoms of the fruit baskets were removed. The first public basketball game was played in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 11, 1892. 🏀⛹️

As far back as the beginnings of sport, it was related to military training. For example, competition was used as a mean to determine whether individuals were fit and useful for service. Team sports were used to train and to prove the capability to fight in the military and also to work together as a team (military unit).
