We’re beyond proud of our Spandits ambassador for crushing the TCS London Marathon in one of our faves, Mountain Meadows mantra boardies. Arms raised, finish line crossed, goal accomplished — this moment is what it’s all about and we love that we were a part of it.
While stock in this print is very limited as we wind down our journey, the spirit behind it lives on through incredible women like Carol: strong, joyful, determined, and unstoppable.
Congratulations on an unforgettable accomplishment — we’re cheering you on every step of the way.

In 2012, Spandits began with a conversation between two friends, a pair of imported tights, and probably a little too much confidence.
Kelley said, “There has to be a better option.” Sarah replied, “I bet we can make them better.”
At the time, we were one of the only companies making printed tights in the United States. We barely knew how online ordering worked when our first real order came in from Chicago — purple and white “Wind Tunnel” tights. We honestly weren’t even sure the order was legitimate, but we made them and shipped them anyway.
Little by little, this tiny idea became real. Over the years, Spandits grew from printed tights into shorts, skirts, dresses, winter gear, hats, neckwarmers, and headbands — all shaped by customer feedback, experimentation, and a desire to make pieces people would truly live in. We partnered with incredible seamstresses here in Maine, sourced better fabrics, improved fits, and somehow built a company that lasted fourteen years.
There were fabric hunts in New York City, late nights packing orders, Common Ground Fair weekends, and moments of absolute chaos and laughter. We’ve watched our gear travel everywhere: marathons, ski trails, mountaintops, grocery stores, and everyday life.
What stands out most after all this time isn’t really the products, though. It’s the people.
The customers who believed in us early. The ambassadors who shared our gear because they genuinely loved it. The friendships formed through this accidental little adventure.
Running a small manufacturing business in Maine has never been easy, but together, we made it work for fourteen years — and we’re incredibly grateful you were part of the journey.
As we wind things down, we’re offering free domestic shipping and 10% off sitewide for the next week as we work through remaining inventory.
The photo in this email — bundled up in a Hygge and blowing powdery snow into the air like a wish — feels a little like this whole moment to us: bittersweet, grateful, fleeting, and beautiful.

We’ve shared a lot lately about the upcoming closing of Spandits, so today just feels like a moment to pause and appreciate how far this little dream has carried us.
Thank you for being here through every season of Spandits. ❤️

Wow…we are blown away.
The response over the past 24 hours has meant more to us than we can put into words. Since 2012, this community has been at the heart of everything we’ve done — and your support right now is just incredible. 💙
Because of the volume of orders (thank you!!), we’re going to pause custom orders for the moment while we catch up and make sure everything is done right.
We still have in-stock items available, but as we mentioned, when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Thank you for being such an important part of our journey. Truly.

After a lot of thought, we’ve made the decision that Spandits will be winding down over the next six months.
When we started back in 2012, printed tights were something you just didn’t see—at least not the way we imagined them. What began as an idea quickly grew into something much bigger, thanks to a community that embraced our unique prints, practical design, and clothing made with intention.
From the very beginning, we’ve stayed committed to local manufacturing here in Maine, even as the landscape around us changed. It hasn’t always been easy—rising costs, shifting markets, and more recently, tariffs impacting materials —but it’s been important to us to do things the right way. We’ve always worked to keep our pricing as reasonable as possible while using high-quality fabrics and producing everything close to home.
Over the years, certain pieces became part of your routines and our identity—especially our Icelandic Tight, designed for true cold weather and lined with polar fleece. Alongside our signature prints, it’s one of the things that set Spandits apart, and we’re proud of what we created.
As we move through this final chapter, we’ll be releasing a limited number of pieces and offering small batches of custom orders using the materials we still have on hand. When those materials are gone, they’re gone—so many of these items will be the last of their kind. If you’ve had your eye on something, or have been meaning to place an order, now is the time.
We’ll continue sharing updates as we go, and we hope you’ll follow along with us through these final months as we elaborate on our journey with throwbacks and stories about “behind the scenes” you won’t want to miss. Thank you for being part of Spandits—for showing up, for supporting local, and for making this journey what it’s been.
❤️ With gratitude,
Sarah & Kelley

Today, on Earth Day, we’re proud to reflect on the steps we take at Spandits to reduce our environmental footprint. 🌍
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us, it’s built into how we create. While performance and durability remain essential—meaning we continue to use spandex in our products—we’re intentional about balancing function with responsibility. That’s why we incorporate recycled polyester wherever possible, helping reduce waste and give new life to existing materials.
From thoughtfully sourcing fabrics to minimizing waste throughout our manufacturing process, every decision is made with the planet in mind. We focus on efficient production methods, responsible material use, and continuous improvement to ensure we’re doing better today than we did yesterday.
We believe that small, intentional choices add up to a meaningful impact, and we’re committed to being part of that progress.
Here’s to a greener future, together. 🌱

Too cold to swim, but perfect for a 4-miler in the salty air! “Wearing my abyss mantra tights were amazing and helped absorb as much heat from the sun as possible.” Definitely needed in these cooler temps and breezy days. ☀️🌊
