Here's the history of cycling hand signals: ➡️ Early 1900s: Motorists used arm signals before indicators were invented. ➡️ 1920s–30s: Police promoted cyclist signals, mirroring driver gestures. ➡️ 1968: Vienna Convention formally standardised cyclist hand signals worldwide. ➡️ Left/right turn: Extend left/right arm straight out, palm forward. ➡️ Alternative Right Turn (US and Canada only): Left arm bent upward at 90 degrees, palm outward.
