THE KALISADOR

The different kinds of fighting sticks, the variety of long and short knives, the staff and all sorts of indigenous swords we have here are some of the weapons we use in the Filipino martial arts. These are what we often refer to as the extension of the hands. Without a blade and a stick at hand, the limbs such as the fist, elbows, knees, feet becomes the sword and the sheild of a Kalisador. The true art of Kalis comes from the bearer of its knowledge. For it is the Kalisador who expresses the art through its artistic form, its rituals and traditions, the nature of its combat sport, the effectiveness of its fighting techniques, and most important of all, its practical day to day application of the principles, philosophies and concepts.

As we often say: The blade is just a blade . The stick is merely a stick without the Kalisador that weilds it.
