The Student-athletes and alumni of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Karatedo Team delivered a remarkable campaign at the 13th Southeast Asian Karate Federation (SEAKF) Championships, where they collected a total of eight medals during the four-day tournament held from July 9 to 12, 2026, at the Ninh Binh Provincial Gymnasium in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

Leading the charge of the highest podium finish was from senior kumite medalists 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐲𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧, a senior Psychology student at PUP and captain of the Philippine National Karate Team, who captured the silver medal in the Men's Kumite -75 kg division after an impressive three-match campaign.

Batican opened his event with an impressive 4–0 victory over Indonesia before his opponent was unable to continue that fave the way to the next round and defeated Malaysia, 4–1, in the semifinals to secure a place in the championship match. In the final match, Batican fought gallantly but narrowly bowed to lenghty Cambodian opponent, 1–2, to settle for silver.

Meanwhile, incoming senior Bachelor of Physical Education student 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 earned a bronze medal in the Women's Kumite -50 kg event. After dropping her opening bout to host Vietnam the earstwhile medalist in various ASEAN tournaments Adriano stormed through the repechage, routing Indonesia, 9–1, before edging a taller Cambodian opponent, 3–3, by virtue of senshu—the first unopposed point scored—to secure a podium finish.

Another bronze was courtesy of 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐚, an incoming sophomore Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship student under the PUP Open University System, who finished third in the Men's Kumite -55 kg category.

The former PUP Karatedo Team member 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐬 also contributed a bronze medal after placing third in the Men's Kumite -60 kg division.

In the last day of the tournament, PUP Karatedo Team captain 𝐘𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 claimed the bronze medal on her first ever duty for the National Team in the Women's Kata event, while the triumvirate of 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐱 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐫., 𝐉𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐲, and 𝐉𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐞 also secured bronze in the Men's Team Kata.

The PUP contingent likewise made its mark in the under-21 division. Incoming third-year BSIT Open University student 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐚 captured a bronze medal in the Women's U21 Kumite -50 kg event after dominating Malaysia, 8–0, in the repechage for third place during the opening day of the competition.

The eight-medal of the PUP Karatedo Team in international competition and its continuing contribution to the Philippine National Karate Team stressed their stature as the country's leading institutions in collegiate Karate.

The South East Asian Karatedo Federation Championship is an annual Karatedo competition sanctioned by Asian Karatedo Federation, a continental division of World Karatedo Federation (WKF) which features multiple categories for all age groups, including Cadets, Juniors, Under-21s, and Seniors division.

PUP Karatedo Team Captain, and newly minted National Kata Team member 𝐘𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞 from Secondary Education social studies program claimed bronze in the Women's Team Kata, while the triumvirate of men's kata squad of 𝐅𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐱 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐫., 𝐉𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐲 from the BPEd program along with their team mate 𝐉𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐍𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐞 also bagged bronze in the Men's Team Kata in the last day of competition of the 13th Southeast Asian Karate Federation Championship in Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) students and Karatedo Team members continued its remarkable campaign at the 13th Southeast Asian Karatedo Championship at Ninh Binh, Vietnam, today, July 11, 2026.

PUP Karadicals and alumni delivered an impressive four-medal haul in the senior kumite events.

Leading the charge for the country was 𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐲𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧, a senior Psychology student and captain of the Philippine National Karate Team, who captured the silver medal in the Men's Kumite -75 kg division. Batican, the gold medalist two years ago opened his campaign with a 4–0 victory over Indonesia who was unable to continue in an apparent injury and sealed the Filipino's advance to the next match. He proceed and outclassed Malaysia, 4–1, in the semifinals to book a place in the gold medal match. In the championship bout, Batican fought utilizing his signature techniques but narrowly bowed to the much taller and lengthy Cambodian bet, 1–2, to finish with the silver medal.

In the Women's Kumite -50 kg category, incoming senior Bachelor of Physical Education student 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 and erstwhile ASEAN medalist secured a hard-earned bronze medal. After an opening-round loss to the host nation, Vietnam, Adriano mounted an impressive comeback through the repechage rounds. She overpowered the Karateka from Indonesia, 9–1, before edging a taller Cambodian opponent, 3–3, in the bronze medal match by virtue of senshu (first unopposed point scored).

Adding to the country's medal tally for today was 𝐊𝐢𝐫𝐤 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐚, an incoming sophomore Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship student under the PUP Open University System, he earned the bronze medal in the Men's Kumite -55 kg division.

Completing the quartet of medalist was former PUP Karatedo Team member and sports science major 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐢𝐬 who contributed another bronze medal for the Philippines after finishing on the podium in the Men's Kumite -60 kg event.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Karatedo Team proudly celebrates the outstanding performance of two of its student-athletes during the first day of the 13th Southeast Asian Karate Federation Championships 2026 at Ninh Binh, Vietnam.

Incoming third-year BSIT Open University student Serene Trinity Albayda earned a bronze medal in the U21 Women's Kumite -50 kg division after a successful 8-0 victory over Malaysia, securing her a podium finish.

Meanwhile, incoming sophomore Journalism student Hestia Mary Vinzon, on the other hand put up a gallant stand in another bronze medal match in a close bout with the host Vietnam's bet with the 1-0 narrow margin, falling just short of a podium finish.

Their performances, which reflects their countless hours of training, and perseverance by proudly representing both the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and the country on the international stage epitomizes a true PUP Radical, hone from the culture of excelling not only in competitions, but also in their academic pursuit.
