Sa Quiapo, Manila, araw-araw dumadaan si Junjun sa makikipot na kalsada kung saan nakahilera ang mga tindahan ng bisikleta. Sa bawat pag-uwi galing eskwela, humihinto siya sa isang lumang bike shop. Nakadikit ang noo niya sa salamin, nakatitig sa pulang bisikleta na tila kumikislap sa ilalim ng araw.
Matagal na niyang pangarap magkaroon ng sariling bike—hindi para magyabang, kundi para hindi na siya maglakad ng halos isang oras papasok sa eskwela. Pero alam niyang hirap ang kanyang ama at ina, na kapwa nagtitinda ng gulay sa palengke.
Isang araw, habang abala siya sa pagtingin, nilapitan siya ng matandang may-ari ng tindahan. “Gusto mo ba talaga ’yan, iho?” tanong ng lalaki. Tumango si Junjun, kahit nahihiya. Hindi siya umasa ng sagot, pero makalipas ang ilang linggo, nadatnan niyang wala na ang bisikleta sa pwesto. Napaluhod siya sa lungkot, hanggang sa pag-uwi niya, bumungad ang kanyang tatay—hawak ang pulang bisikleta, may bahid ng grasa sa kamay.
“Hindi ito bago, inayos lang ni Mang Tonyo mula sa Quiapo. Pero para sa ’yo, Junjun, bago ang lahat,” sabi ng ama. Napayakap siya nang mahigpit, sabay iyak sa tuwa.
At mula noon, ang bawat ikot ng gulong ay paalala na minsan, ang pinakamalaking pangarap ng isang bata ay nagiging totoo sa tulong ng pagmamahal at sakripisyo ng magulang.
