Due to ongoing travel restrictions in Asia, the two remaining stops of Robert Degle’s seminars in the Philippines and Shanghai, will be rescheduled.

Given his upcoming stint as a featured fighter in Grapplefest 8 this February in England, we are postponing Degle’s seminar in the Philippines to April 2020.

“I am deeply sorry for not making it to Manila. I realize how big the BJJ scene is over there and I was really looking forward to not just sharing what I know but learning from everyone I get to roll and train with. I promise to make up for it when I visit in April. See you guys soon, can’t wait!” - Robert Degle

In addition to reaching out to those who have registered for your payment refund, we will offer a discounted rate if you sign up again upon confirmation of the new date.

Rising grapplers share spotlight

Trinity Turf Wars by Dark Arts Grappling highlighted upcoming grapplers in its second team submissions event on 21 December at the Sagul Malingap Foodpark in Quezon City.

Featuring white and blue belts from affiliates of Kamphuis-Fabricio, the squad comprised of Abe Alzate, Stephen Cabredo, and Lance Guinto from Round 1 came out on top after Guinto submitted Jay Mendoza from KMA-Wackwack via armbar in the finals. The latter, with Rodel Rapusa and Aehjay Prado, cinched second place. In the fight for third, Maic’s Gym’s Kael Canlas, Tom Javier, and Noah Uychoco, showcased impressive technique to edge out bigger opponents, beating Fist Gym’s Richie Redman, Tom Kruegler, and Sheraz Qureshi.

In the women’s division which included a mixed lineup of promising grapplers, Jev Ceballos delivered a clutch choke for teammates Abby Obias and Ruby Rose Gonzales to outhustle the equally scrappy squad of Kathy Chin, Eli Kerr, and Nhaja Herrera for the championship.

Staged in partnership with Marcventures, Worldrep Inc., and Cher Transport, Trinity is the first team submissions grappling series in the country. The in-house event in 2019 was also supported by Pig Republic, La Corazon Leisure Farm, and Pwersa APC.

Dark Arts Grappling, which aims to bring grappling closer to the public, will be hosting Danaher Death Squad’s Robert Degle for a one-day seminar on 1 February.

“Great grappling is fun to watch, regardless, but the dynamic and explosive nature of no gi seems to make for a better spectator sport,” Robert Degle says of himself and the rest of John Danaher’s rash guard army as advocates of the attacking game. “As more people are exposed to the dynamic nature of no gi and realize that it's not as dangerous as they may have been led to believe, more will want to give it a try.”

Robert Degle, one of John Danaher’s rising students at Renzo Gracie Academy, shares what sets their training apart. “The focus is on improvement over protecting our egos,” he explains. “Of course, as people striving to be great, we all have egos but Danaher emphasizes the idea of progress over time as being the central focus of what we do. He urges us to focus on the effects rather than the results of our training.” He suggests as an example to let yourself get into bad spots if you want to work on your submission defense.

Dive deeper into what makes champions at Degle’s series of seminars in Asia, including the Philippines on Saturday, 1 February.

Sharpen your skills toward strategy, says DDS squad member, Robert Degle. ‘’When you have a clear sense of what to do and you're confident that you can do it, you'll perform much better than under any other conditions,’’ he adds. ‘’Competence, in a sense, breeds confidence.’’

As a rising star on Renzo Gracie Academy New York’s junior squad in 2018, John Danaher once described Robert Degle as a “leglocking ace” after heelhooking his opponent for the win, in just 10 seconds.

Find out how the phenom does it, and more, as he comes to Manila for a one-day seminar on Thursday, January 30. Degle shares the skill and strategy behind submissions and success on the mats.

Dark Arts Grappling organized a grappling seminar for kids at the Bahay Pag-asa, a rehab center run by the Valenzuela city government. The Juvenile Justice Act mandates the establishment of youth detention homes by local government for children in conflict with the law (CICL).
