In the vast expanse of the galaxy, asteroids are more than just cosmic debris—they’re iconic features in the Star Wars universe! 🌌🚀 Remember the thrilling asteroid field scene from The Empire Strikes Back (1980)? The Millennium Falcon's daring escape through a perilous asteroid belt showcased the dramatic role these space rocks can play.
But asteroids aren’t just a staple of sci-fi excitement. In reality, NASA astronomers are hard at work studying these celestial objects to understand and mitigate potential threats. Their groundbreaking DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) project, launched in 2021, successfully altered the course of an asteroid in 2022, demonstrating a real-world application of asteroid deflection strategies.
Join us on November 9 for Good Morning Science and dive into the fascinating world of space science. Plus, get ready for some Star Wars trivia from our Star Wars aficionado scientists! 🌠🔭

Happy World Ocean's Day!
Did you know CO2 emissions hurt marine life by causing ocean acidification? CO2 from our atmosphere enters the ocean and reacts with water to form a weak acid called carbonic acid (H2CO3). Carbonic acid then dissociates into protons (H+) and bicarbonate ions (HCO3-). This chemical reaction makes ocean water more acidic and affects the well-being of corals, gastropods, bivalves and more. On today's World Oceans Day, help us spread the word about ocean acidification and how we can help by lowering our own CO2 emissions!
