Working together for a cleaner and more sustainable future! 🌱♻️

Holcim Philippines, through it's waste management arm, Geocycle, partnered with the Science City of Muñoz to train around 70 waste workers on proper waste segregation and co-processing. By helping identify non-recyclable materials that can be recovered as alternative fuels, we are supporting local governments in reducing landfill waste and advancing the circular economy.

Thank you to the Science City of Muñoz for partnering with us to create a positive environmental impact.

Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija — Holcim Philippines through its waste management solutions arm, Geocycle, expanded its circular economy initiatives in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija by hosting a waste management and segregation program for about 70 workers on June 11, 2026. This initiative supports the company’s commitment to helping local government units manage waste and help divert non-recyclable materials from landfills to be used as alternative fuels.

The participants, primarily women from the Kababaihan ng Muñoz group responsible for waste segregation and road sweeping activities, attended the session to deepen their understanding of proper waste management practices and the role they play in supporting a circular economy.

During the event, Rossen Banawa from Geocycle Philippines emphasized the importance of proper waste segregation so participants could identify which non-recyclable materials are suitable for co-processing, ensuring waste is recovered for productive use instead of being sent to landfills. To reinforce learning and encourage participation, attendees also joined a waste segregation challenge that highlighted the importance of proper sorting at source.

"Partnerships with local governments are critical in advancing circular economy solutions that benefit both communities and the environment. Through co-processing, we can help cities reduce landfill waste while supporting more sustainable resource management practices," said Luningning Donato, Head of Geocycle Philippines.

Co-processing is a safe way of using pre-qualified non-recyclable materials as alternative fuel. Instead of being landfilled, the materials are safely co-processed, where it is completely used as alternative fuel or alternative raw material.

“Alliances and partnerships produce stability when they reflect realities and interests; that's how I see and anticipate our partnership not only for our own interest but for the betterment of our environment,” said Engineer June Mico, CENRO Head.

On February 20, city representatives visited Holcim Philippines' Norzagaray plant to gain firsthand understanding of the company's co-processing technology and its role in reducing landfill dependency. These engagements mark another milestone in the growing collaboration between Holcim Philippines and the Science City of Muñoz.

Through collaboration with local governments, communities, and environmental stakeholders, Holcim Philippines continues to advance innovative solutions that contribute to a cleaner environment and a more sustainable future.

At Holcim Philippines, we believe real change happens when communities and partners come together.

In Barangay Quirino, La Union, we listened to a simple but urgent need, access to water. Starting in the second quarter of last year, we worked side by side with the community to develop a water supply system and rainwater harvesting facility designed to bring water closer to families.

Through the project, 400 individuals now have access to an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 liters of domestic water supply for daily household needs such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and sanitation.

This is how we move forward: by listening, collaborating, and taking meaningful action. Together, we build more than structures, we build progress for people and the planet.
