Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend lived up to their lofty doubles seeding/ranking in a clinical demolition of Alex Eala and Hailey Baptiste in straight sets 6-2 6-1.

Eala/Baptiste again fell behind at the start of the second set 0-4 before holding serve on Baptiste’s ace on a deciding point 1-4.

Siniakova/Townsend held serve 5-1 then converted on another deciding point to end the match 6-1.

Alex Eala/Hailey Baptiste loses the 1st set to the 2nd seed tandem of Katerina Siniakova/Taylor Townsend 2-6.

Eala/Baptiste on serve loses the first game on a deciding point then Siniakova/Townsend won the next three games to take an early 4-0 lead. Eala/Baptiste finally had a service hold but couldn’t convert on their break points 1-5.

With Alex serving they managed to win a deciding point 2-5 but Siniakova/Townsend rallied from 0-30 to win the first set 6-2.

Laban lang, Alex and Hailey!

Alex Eala continues her campaign in the WTA 1000 Rome Open as she and doubles partner Hailey Baptiste made it to the draw as alternates.

They will face the 2nd seed tandem of Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in the 1st round / R32. Their match will be on Pietrangeli Arena at 5pm Philippine time.

Good luck Alex and Hailey, laban lang!

Alex Eala loses to world no. 2 Elena Rybakina in straight sets to end her campaign at the WTA 1000 Rome Open 4-6 3-6.

Alex gave a good account of herself especially in the first set with just a single break of serve separating them. But Rybakina took advantage of her 28 winners against Alex’s 17 winners to set up the win. However, Alex had fewer unforced errors 22 against Rybakina’s 32. Rybakina had 69 total points won while Alex had 60.

Alex was broken at the onset of the second set but easily countered with her own break of serve 1-1. Seizing the momentum Alex held serve to lead for the first time 2-1 but Rybakina also held serve for the sixth time in the match 2-2.

Alex saved two break points but Rybakina converted on her break point #3 with a down the line winner then consolidated with another service hold 4-2.

Still fighting and just one break point behind Alex held serve 3-4 but Rybakina also held serve 5-3 then broke Alex for the third time to win the match 6-3.

Alex Eala loses the first set against Elena Rybakina 4-6.

Alex takes an extended first game in the set to hold serve 1-0 but Rybakina countered with a service hold and a break of serve 2-1. Alex forced a deuce but Rybakina held serve 3-1 then Alex had a quick service hold 2-3.

Both held serves easily with Rybakina still leading 4-3. Rybakina again held serve 5-3 then Alex saved a set point to stay in the set 4-5. Alex saved another set point but Rybakina finally converted on her third break point to win the set 6-4.

Laban lang, Alex!
