Hi Wildlings!

We’re a community who love to bring our kids outdoors — from backyard adventures to mountain trails. Our goal is simple: to connect families through shared experiences, tips, and even events that bring us closer to nature and to each other. 🌎✨

Sometimes, the greatest adventures don’t require long drives or fancy gear. Backyard camping is one of those little gems. With a few sticks, a small fire, and some marshmallows, you can create an evening filled with laughter and connection. Children love the thrill of roasting their own treats and telling stories under the night sky — even if it’s only a few steps away from their bedroom.

The magic lies in the simplicity. No screens, no distractions. Just meaningful moments — the crackle of the fire, the glow of smiles, and the joy of being together. It’s a reminder that what matters most isn’t the place, but the people you share it with. 💜

So here’s your invitation: try it out with your family. Pull up some chairs, light a little fire (safely!), and see how quickly “ordinary” turns into something unforgettable. 🌙🔥

Kindergarten was once a sacred space for children to discover the world at their own pace—through play, creativity, and connection. It wasn’t about worksheets or early academics; it was about nurturing curiosity, imagination, and emotional growth.

But somewhere along the way, we traded this magic for pressure, structure, and rushing milestones. The result? Stressed kids and lost opportunities to build a true foundation for lifelong learning.

It’s time to reclaim the art of kindergarten—a place where children can learn through joy, develop social and emotional skills, and fall in love with the process of discovery. Because the reward isn’t just academic success—it’s thriving, resilient, and curious little humans ready to take on the world. If your child is in public school, you can make this your focus at home! ♥️

Kindergarten is not about how much they can memorize or write—it’s about rediscovering the magic of play. 🌿

Through play, children learn to explore, create, and grow. It’s where their imagination takes flight, their confidence blossoms, and their hearts find joy. Let’s not rush them through these precious years—let’s nurture the art of play and let them be little.

At Outdoor Wildlings, we celebrate the wonder of childhood through play and nature. 💛

It is hilarious to me that the videos of my middle child eating mud always gets people so very angry.

Raise your hand if your child has ever eaten dirt! 🙋‍♀️

All three of my children have sampled sand, taken a sip of their mud soup, or stuck a stick in their mouth.

However, my middle made a sport of this. I remember her being one-year-old. We had gone to a lake as a family and my children had spent a lot of that day snacking on the shore. At a certain point my husband had decided the snacks had gone on for too long. He packed up all the snacks and said we were done with them for the day. My one-year-old stared her father in the eyes, grabbed a handful of rocks, and shoved them into her mouth.

I quickly came to the realization that if you told this little girl not to do something, she was 100% going to try her best to do it. This led to her eating handfuls of sand, clumps of dirt, and SOOO VERY MUCH MUD. In time I became wiser and learned to ignore this behavior, thus so it eventually stopped.

Not once did she ever become ill from eating these natural materials. In fact, my children are healthier than most of their friends.

In truth, I have friends who blame my children’s good health on the fact that they eat dirt. 😂

Do I recommend having your children eat dirt?
No.

But do I think it’s a big deal if they do?
No.

As long as this dirt, mud, sand, etc. is out in nature, and not close to a possible contaminate, then my suggestion is just don’t worry too much about it.

And if you have a kid similar to my middle child, take a deep breath and recognize that it's just strengthening their immune system!

In today’s tech-savvy world, it’s easy for kids to rattle off the names of influencers, brands, and celebrities. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, it’s essential not to lose sight of the wonders that Mother Earth has to offer. 🌍

Why is Nature So Important? 🌿
Research has shown that exposure to nature can reduce stress, improve mental well-being, and encourage physical activity in children. It also fosters creativity and improves focus, essential for a child’s overall development.

Steps to Raise Nature-Savvy Kids 🐾
1️⃣ Nature Walks: Take frequent walks and point out different plants, birds, and animals.
2️⃣ Gardening: Teach them the basics of gardening. Let them plant a seed and watch it grow.
3️⃣ Outdoor Games: Encourage playing games that involve natural elements—think scavenger hunts or nature bingo.
4️⃣ Books and Apps: Use educational books or apps focused on wildlife and botany.

Long-Term Impact 💚
Knowing the natural world intimately not only enriches a child’s life but also cultivates a sense of responsibility to protect it.

Let’s raise a generation that can name the trees in their local park, recognize the birds that visit their backyard, and understand the importance of coexisting with the natural world. 🌳🐦

Let’s nurture curious minds and adventurous hearts 🌿🦋. Because raising kids who know the wonders of nature is far more priceless than the trends of the world. 💚
