Maj Abid Zaman (SSG – Zarrar ATU) A Ghazi, A Living Legend 🇵🇰
Maj Abid Zaman stands as a shining symbol of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to Pakistan. The proud grandson of Subedar Said Shah, a veteran of the 1965 War 🇵🇰, bravery and service run deep in his bloodline.
He earned national recognition for his extraordinary gallantry during the APS Peshawar operation in 2014, where, as a Capt, he led critical clearance operations against enemy. Displaying exceptional leadership under fire, he was critically wounded while saving innocent lives. In the same heroic operation, Capt Hafeez Ahmed was also injured while fighting alongside him.
In December 2022, during a mid-term break from his Staff Course, Maj Abid Zaman was on leave at home when the call of duty came again. Without hesitation, he voluntarily rejoined his parent unit, Zarrar ATU (SSG), to take part in the Bannu hostage rescue operation on 20 December 2022. Once again, he fought at the forefront of a successful mission and sustained injuries in the line of duty proving that personal comfort never outweighs national responsibility.
Beyond national service, Maj Abid Zaman has also represented Pakistan with honor during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Sudan, upholding the country's image as a force for peace and stability.
A battle hardened officer, a Ghazi, and a true son of the soil, Maj Abid Zaman continues to serve proudly in the Special Services Group (SSG). God willing, he is soon to be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, a rank well earned through blood, bravery, and boundless commitment to the nation.

As we mark 11 years of the most horrific tragedy ever to occur in Pakistan to date, the APS Peshawar attack remains a deep scar that will never fade away from our history. This tragic event, which took the lives of so many innocent children and staff, serves as a haunting reminder of the brutal realities of terrorism.

On Dec 16, 2014, at 10:30 AM, a distress call was received from Army Public School, Peshawar, reporting an ongoing terrorist attack.
Zarrar Anti-Terrorists Unit, stationed at Ghazi Base, was in the midst of a marksman competition. Five Mi17 helicopters were immediately dispatched to transport the Zarrar ATU commandos to Peshawar.
The operation was unique due to its no-notice deployment; typically, missions require at least 90 minutes of preparation, but this time, they were ready within 20 mins. Before that Police, and QRF were present on ground. ( Same time Ts moved from Auditorium to Admin block)
Upon arrival, the commandos faced a situation with no clear command center; they had to make immediate decisions based on the evolving scenario.The first ts was encountered in the school's courtyard; he was quickly eliminated before he could use his su***de vest, although shrapnel from the blast martyred one commando
The SSG commandos advanced through the school, dealing with ts in different locations.
The main fight fought on Admin block and Commandos able to stuck them on same location before they move classrooms where almost 1100 students were present
Most of Casualties happened at Auditorium and surroundings until soldiers responded inn and they ran to admin block. Where further fight fought.
The forces responded very swiftly and even cleared 2 hrs which saved nearly 1100 students that were present in classrooms . Still 149 people martyred including 132 innocent children. in auditorium we got biggest loss in the history of Pakistan.
