H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, delivered a plenary lecture at the 18th National Spectroscopy Congress held at , Ankara, Türkiye.

The title of his lecture was “Applications of NMR Spectroscopy in Drug Discovery and Development – Our Studies on Potential Ligands of Protein Targets.” Prof. Dr. Choudhary highlighted the significant role of NMR spectroscopy in modern drug discovery, development, and biomedical research.

H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, held a meeting with the Dean of Hacettepe University, Prof. Dr. Bekir Saleh, on the occasion of the 18th National Spectroscopy Congress at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Türkiye.

During the meeting, both sides discussed possible avenues for mutual cooperation. The Coordinator General OIC-COMSTECH also presented the COMSTECH shield.

Turkish expert visits CEMB under OIC-COMSTECH Expert Service Programme

Islamabad,( May 8th 2026)

Under the OIC-COMSTECH Expert Service Programme, the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, is hosting Turkish scientist Prof Dr Fikrettin Şahin, head of genetics and bioengineering at Yeditepe University from May 5-8, 2026.

The visit marks the expert engagement under the COMSTECH Expert Service Programme, a flagship initiative launched to facilitate technical cooperation and scientific capacity building among OIC member states.

During the visit, Prof Dr Şahin is holding strategic discussions with Director CEMB Prof Dr Moazur Rahman aimed at strengthening long-term international collaboration and exploring avenues for the commercialisation of biotechnological innovations.

The engagement is focused on translating advanced scientific research into practical and impactful solutions through joint research initiatives and knowledge sharing.

As part of the programme, Prof Dr Şahin is conducting technical reviews of CEMB’s specialised facilities, including laboratories dedicated to stem cell research, biopharmaceuticals, virology and genetic diseases. The interaction is expected to promote the exchange of technical expertise, advanced research practices and emerging trends in molecular biology and genetic engineering.

The initiative is also aimed at strengthening scientific cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye while opening new opportunities for collaborative research and innovation.

The Expert Service Programme enables institutions across OIC member states to benefit from the services of internationally recognised experts for technical consultation, specialised training and research collaboration.

This programme reflects COMSTECH’s broader commitment to enhancing scientific capacity, promoting innovation and supporting high-impact research initiatives across the Muslim world.

Prof. Dr. Hina Siddiqui, COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar and Professor at the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, who is currently visiting Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Indonesia, under the COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar Program, delivered an insightful lecture at the Faculty of Mathematics on the topic “Design and Synthesis of New Bioactive Heterocyclic Compounds Synthesis, In Vitro and In Silico Studies.”

The lecture focused on the design and synthesis of bioactive heterocyclic compounds and highlighted the importance of in vitro and in silico studies in modern drug discovery and pharmaceutical research. Participants benefited from interactive discussions, and her expertise in medicinal and synthetic chemistry. She also briefed participants about the various research, collaboration, and capacity-building opportunities offered by OIC-COMSTECH.

A high-level strategic meeting was hosted today at the OIC-COMSTECH Secretariat, welcoming a distinguished delegation from the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD) representing Indonesia, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Australia, and Malaysia. The discussions centered on establishing a comprehensive action plan to synergize regional expertise with global scientific standards. The primary focus remains on enhancing capacity building across Life Sciences, Engineering, and Technology, while simultaneously strengthening frameworks and imparting training for Journal Development, academic publications, and the protection of Intellectual Property Rights.

Beyond academic rigor, the partnership emphasizes a commitment to Community Development, Impact, and Sustainability, specifically addressing critical intersections of health and the environment. Both organizations are set to launch collaborative initiatives for researcher mobility and joint training programs designed to empower the next generation of scientists. By bridging these diverse regions, OIC-COMSTECH and WUACD aim to create a resilient ecosystem that translates high-level research into tangible health and technological solutions for the global community.

OIC-COMSTECH and SUSTAINADILITY LLC Sign MoU to Drive Global Innovation and Capacity Building.

The OIC-COMSTECH and Sustainadility LLC have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on accelerating technical proficiency and sustainable development across OIC member states. The agreement, signed by H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, and Mr. Faraz Khan MBE, Partner at Sustainadility LLC, places a premium on capacity building and knowledge exchange. By merging COMSTECH’s scientific network with Sustainadility’s strategic advisory, the partnership aims to develop specialized training programs and data-driven frameworks. These initiatives are designed to empower a new generation of leaders and sovereign stakeholders with the technical skills required to navigate the complexities of the global transition toward high-performance, sustainable economies.

H.E. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH, attended the inaugural ceremony of the 6th International Students Convention 2026 as the chief guest at the Islamabad campus of FAST National University. The event brought together vice chancellors, rectors, academicians, and students from across Pakistan and several other countries, who showcased their innovative projects and cultural stalls and participated in different categories .

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Choudhary emphasized that the youth are the architects of the future and are fortunate to live in an era of unprecedented advancement and global connectivity. He highlighted that the true identity of nations is reflected through excellence , excellence in education, universities, ideas, entrepreneurship, innovation, and the brilliance of young minds.

He further appreciated the enthusiasm and creativity displayed by the students and extended his heartfelt congratulations to the organizers for successfully arranging such an impactful and inspiring international convention.

The session focused on guiding participants through essential concepts of modern chemical research, including research design, analytical techniques, and the interpretation of NMR data for structural elucidation of small molecules. She emphasized the importance of strong conceptual understanding and the application of appropriate methodologies in chemical analysis. Participants benefited from practical examples, interactive discussions, and clear explanations of complex concepts. She also briefed participants about the various funding and collaborative research opportunities offered by OIC-COMSTECH.
