More than half of the world's population lives in cities, which account for approximately 70% emissions driving climate change.
In Brazil, planners are rethinking how cities grow so they work with nature, not against it.
Their idea? The ‘agrihood’, neighbourhoods that mix homes with farms, trees and shared green spaces. Instead of spreading into forests and farmland, these places restore damaged land, cool cities, reduce floods, protect wildlife and provide local food, while still being profitable.
UN News explains how bringing nature back into everyday city life benefits both people and the planet.https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/02/1166880
