After concluding their final pool match with a 5-5 draw against Malaysia, the Pakistan hockey team has secured the top spot in the Asia Hockey5s World Cup Qualifiers. Remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, Pakistan leads the points table with 13 points, closely followed by India with 12 points.
In the thrilling match against Malaysia, Rana Abdul Waheed scored three goals, while Mohammad Murtaza and Abdul Rehman contributed one each for the Pakistani team. On the Malaysian side, Din Muhammad netted two goals, and Mat Syarman, Anuwar Akhimullah, and Ishak Arif scored one each.
Malaysia secured the third position in the points table, followed by Bangladesh, Oman, and Japan in the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions, respectively.
In previous matches, Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India and Bangladesh with scores of 5-4 and 15-6, respectively.
The Pakistani team is led by head coach Olympian Wasim Feroze and manager Major Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan.
The Elite pool consists of India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Japan, Oman, and Bangladesh, while the Challenger pool includes Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, and Iran. The tournament will proceed with crossover matches among the teams from both pools, ultimately leading to the selection of the finalists who will qualify for the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024.

Pakistan beat Japan by 26-1 in World Cup Hockey Qualifier at Salalah, Oman last night. Pakistan will play its second match of qualifying against Bangladesh today.
