UFM Trophy 5th Edition – Mirpur Khas vs Kattar Karachi

A little late, but here’s the thrilling update from UFM trophy 5th Edition

1st Match

The coin was tossed under the evening sky, and Kattar Karachi’s captain chose to bat first. Mirpur Khas started brilliantly, giving away only 7 runs in the first 2 overs of the powerplay. But Karachi’s batters shifted the momentum and smashed 91 runs in the remaining overs, setting a total of 99 runs in 8 overs.

Mirpur Khas responded with explosive batting, scoring 40 runs in the powerplay, taking complete control of the match. They chased the target in 6 overs, winning by 3 wickets.

2nd Match

Mirpur Khas won the toss and opted to bowl first. Karachi’s openers produced a tremendous comeback, attacking right from the powerplay, and especially accelerating after the first 2 overs. Their batters dominated the innings and posted a massive target of 123 runs in 8 overs.

While chasing, Mirpur Khas couldn’t maintain the required momentum in the powerplay and ended their innings at 80 runs, falling short of the target.

3rd & Final Decider Match

Mirpur Khas won the toss again and chose to field. Their bowlers delivered an exceptional performance, completely outclassing Karachi’s batting lineup and restricting them to just 46 runs in 8 overs.

Chasing 47, Mirpur Khas batters remained calm and confident, reaching the target in only 4 overs with 8 wickets in hand, securing the series

Winning Captain’s Speech

The Mirpur Khas captain said they were confident from the start that they would win the final edition. He praised every team member for fulfilling their roles responsibly and appreciated Karachi for playing competitive cricket.

Losing Captain’s Remarks

The Karachi captain appreciated his batters for their strong comeback but expressed disappointment in the bowlers. He felt they should have defended 99 runs in the first match and admitted they were 30–40 runs short in the final. He concluded, “Two teams play: one wins, and the other learns.”

Here is the summary of the 4th Edition of UFM Trophy:

In the opening match of the UFM Trophy, Kattar Karachi won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite a shaky start, losing 4 wickets for just 15 runs, they made a strong comeback to set a target of 102 runs in 10 overs. Mirpur Khas Knight Riders started their chase confidently but collapsed after two overs, with their opening pair and middle order faltering against Kattar Karachi's formidable bowling, ultimately falling short of the target.

In the second match, Mirpur Khas won the toss and chose to bat first. Their batters scored 45 runs in the first 5 overs, followed by an exceptional performance from the middle order, posting a challenging total of 137 runs. Kattar Karachi struggled during their chase, facing a batting collapse early on. Despite a spirited fight in the final 4 overs, they couldn't bridge the gap, handing Mirpur Khas the victory.

The decider match saw Mirpur Khas opting to bat first in the 5-over contest, putting up a competitive total of 68 runs. However, Kattar Karachi's batters came out aggressively, dominating the Knight Riders' bowlers. They chased down the target in just 3.5 overs, securing their second UFM Trophy title and showcasing a spectacular turnaround to claim victory in the 4th edition of the tournament.

History of the UFM Trophy Cricket Tournament

The story of the UFM Trophy began in 2021, when a group of university friends came together with a bold idea. Students from two cities—Mirpur Khas and Khipro, along with five students from Karachi—decided to organize a friendly cricket tournament. The first edition of the tournament was held between teams representing Mirpur Khas Knight riders and Kattar Karachi. In this inaugural match, the team from Mirpur Khas triumphed in a one-sided victory, leaving the Karachi team disappointed.

Determined to get their revenge, the Karachi students came back stronger for the next season, the Kattar Karachi team dominated the tournament, clean-sweeping the Mirpur Khas Knight Riders. The competition was now firmly established as an annual cricket war between these two cities.

Season 3 saw a dramatic turn of events as Mirpur Khas Knight Riders made an impressive comeback, knocking out Kattar Karachi in a brutal fashion, reclaiming their position as the dominant force in the tournament.

As of now, the tournament stands at an exciting point. The Mirpur Khas Knight Riders have won two titles, while Kattar Karachi has claimed one. The stage is set for the 4th edition of the UFM Trophy, scheduled to take place on January 19, 2025, at Imran Khan Cricket Ground, NIPA Chowrangi, Karachi.

Who will emerge victorious this time? Will the Knight Riders defend their title, or will Kattar Karachi rise to take their second championship? The battle for the 4th title is on!
