The engine has arrived in the shop! Parts are mostly ordered... here we go 🔧

Our engine is pretty new still (about 12 years or so) but it has a bunch of hours on it already. Once we take off for the next trip, we won't be back for a while, so we decided to give it an overhaul while we are close to our favorite engine magician, uncle Marek 🥸 This is lifting the engine out to get it to his shop

We recently received an email from Jorge, from Vigo in the northwest of Spain. He jumped onto Matenka as crew in 1987 when my dad passed though there on their way to the Canary Islands to cross the Atlantic. Jorge kept this newspaper clipping as a memory of the trip until this day, it talks about the work in the marina, but in the corner of the picture you can see Matenka moored there. I cannot wait to meet Jorge next time we are in Vigo and invite him back onto Matenka 🥰

One of the byproducts of moving our entire front cabin, was that the hatch was not in the right place anymore. It was way too much to the back, in fact, it would have been right on top of the new bulkhead (aka shower cabin wall). So we had to move it forward to accommodate the new layout, which was a lot of work. It’s a huge hatch too and while the frame is still in really good shape, the plexiglass was not anymore. So we are looking to replace it, just having a really hard time to source 12mm plexi sheets, apparently they are all max 10mm nowadays 🤷♀️
