Another WPX CW is in the books, and we had a great time!
I was glad to host my longtime La Sierra Contest Group friends KP3J, KP3N, and WP4TZ. This time, we also invited KP4JRS, who proved to be a great addition to the team.
We planned this operation as a fully remote and fully solar-powered effort. Murphy visited us very early. One week before the contest, our KP3CW skimmer Red Pitaya receiver stopped working. We had one Flex 6400 and one Flex 6600 ready for the contest, but two days before the event, the 6600 developed the dreaded three red flashes on the power button.
The first hour of the contest was lost troubleshooting an issue with N1MM numbering. For some reason, it was sending serial numbers in the 3000s. After trying everything during that first hour, we finally solved it by creating a new database and configuring all PCs from scratch. Our apologies to those who contacted us during those opening minutes.
KP3N offered his Flex 6400, and by Saturday morning the 6600 was replaced, which allowed for more effective mult hunting.
Special thanks to KP3N and WP4TZ for their help with the antennas installation, which played a key role in making this operation successful.

Meet The People Behind Desecheo Dxpedition 2026:
Meet Osvaldo, KP3N
Osvaldo’s amateur radio journey began in 2014, when he earned his first license and was issued the callsign WP4PBR. After upgrading to General, he became KP4OSP, a period during which he deepened his involvement in the hobby, refined his operating skills, and developed a strong appreciation for the worldwide amateur radio community.
Living in Puerto Rico, Osvaldo was quickly drawn to the unique technical and social opportunities amateur radio offers from the Caribbean. Early on, he focused mainly on digital modes and some SSB, but over time his interests evolved. Today, he primarily operates CW and especially enjoys field operations, including SOTA and POTA, where he combines operating skill with a love of being outdoors.
Eventually, Osvaldo adopted his current callsign, KP3N, marking the present chapter of his amateur radio career. By then, amateur radio had become far more than a pastime—it was an important part of his daily life. Operating from Puerto Rico, he has experienced firsthand how radio transcends geography, language, and culture through contacts made across regions and borders.
As KP3N, Osvaldo remains committed to growing as an operator while preserving the traditions and values of amateur radio. His journey continues, driven by curiosity, respect for the art and science of radio, and gratitude for the global community that makes this hobby truly extraordinary.
