Funktional Training Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation. Physical therapists often use this approach to retrain patients with movement disorders.

Origins

Functional training attempts to adapt or develop exercises which allow individuals to perform the activities of daily life more easily and without injuries. Interventions are designed to incorporate task and context specific practice in areas meaningful to each patient, with an overall goal of functional independence.[1] For example, exercises that mimic what patients did at home or work may be included in treatment in order to help them return to their lives or jobs after an injury or surgery. Thus if a patient's job required repeatedly heavy lifting, rehabilitation would be targeted towards heavy lifting, if the patient were a parent of young children, it would be targeted towards moderate lifting and endurance, and if the patient were a marathon runner, training would be targeted towards re-building endurance. However, treatments are designed after careful consideration of the patient’s condition, what he or she would like to achieve, and ensuring goals of treatment are realistic and achievable. In the context of body building, functional training involves mainly weight bearing activities targeted at core muscles of the abdomen and lower back. Most fitness facilities have a variety of weight training machines which target and isolate specific muscles. As a result the movements do not necessarily bear any relationship to the movements people make in their regular activities or sports. In rehabilitation, training does not necessarily have to involve weight bearing activities, but can target any task or a combination of tasks that a patient is having difficulty with. Balance (ability) training, for example, is often incorporated into a patient’s treatment plan if it has been impaired after injury or disease.

Smoked Cod and Mixed Veggies

Cooking at home doesn't have to mean becoming a gourmet chef. 👨‍🍳

When you cook at home, you have more control over the ingredients, portions, added sugar, sodium, and cooking methods.

You don't need to make every meal from scratch.

Sometimes, simple food made at home beats complicated food ordered out.

One extra home-cooked meal a week is a pretty good place to start. 🍳🥦

You don't have to completely overhaul your diet overnight. Small, realistic changes add up. 🥦🍎💧
Add a vegetable. Drink a little more water. Cook at home one extra night. Adjust portions. Keep the foods you love—just enjoy them a little differently.
Better eating isn't about perfection. It's about progress you can actually maintain.

Healthy eating doesn't have to mean cooking an elaborate meal every night.

Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is have a better option waiting for you when life gets crazy.

Keep a few simple “emergency meals” in the freezer—nothing fancy, just reliable.

Because when you're tired and hungry, convenience wins.

So make healthy convenience work for you. 👊

Getting older doesn’t mean your body suddenly stops working.

The changes are gradual. Your needs evolve. And your body is far more adaptable than we sometimes give it credit for.

The problem is that most of us were never taught what to expect—or what to do about it.

That’s one of the reasons I’m writing a new health book.

It’s not about chasing your 20-year-old body. It’s about understanding the body you have now, learning how to work with it, and giving yourself more options for the years ahead.

Because getting older isn’t the end of the story. It’s a new chapter.

📖 Coming soon.
