lessons I learnt from running:
1. flexibility and strength go hand in hand
2. there's no bad weather, only bad gear (preparation)
3. keep going, you'll get there
4. a full-effort race feels better than a half-assed personal best
5. dopamine is real - the harder the effort, the better the hot dog
6. good company makes all the difference

👁️ POV: Opening my eyes from Shavasana at the park 💚
Yesterday, Jupiter went direct. This can highlight to us our belief system, philosophy and growth. As I looked through my teaching plans, I found a sequence that I made exactly a year ago. I am reminded of my growth, imperceptibly, one class at a time :)
This year I am grateful for my body, practice, beautiful friendships, support system, this life that I love 💗✨

🔙 Mercury Retrograde is a time of “Re’s”
Things don’t go straightforward, it feels like taking two steps forward and one step back. The universe is asking us to do exactly that - take a step back. This is not a time to charge ahead. This is a time to go inwards.

After my knee injury last year, I have so much love for every little step my legs take. Yesterday, they climbed 708 steps to the top of the world’s third biggest rock! 🫂❤️

🙏🏻 today I am grateful for good health, my legs, yoga practice, pleasant weather in the rainy season, the universe’s reminders, a kind guide, a delicious lunch, freedom, the ability hike this while I’m young, to be alive right now, and a trooper to do hard things with.

🧈 "melt your shoulders, let the tension fall." I recently had to tell myself.
🥂 I was at a social gathering, and saw someone I felt was intimidating. I caught myself "on alert" - shoulders raised, eyes wide open, self-conscious.
🪷 with that awareness, I consciously relaxed my body - all those yoga nidras paid off - I dropped my eyebrows, took that attenion inwards, kind of like an energetic brushing of my hair to calm my nervous system.
👀 when I was no longer consumed by my self-consciousness, I was able to notice how the other person talked, name-dropped, needed to impress - deep down, she was insecure, too.
💪 we are so constantly tensed that we don't even notice it. even conscious relaxation is a muscle, one we can train to activate when needed - for intimidating situations, when we are too self-conscious to pay attention, when we need to relax or just sleep.

🖐️ I commented to my student the other day that she's flexible, she dismissed it, saying "but my fingers can't touch the floor in a forward bend"
☝️ Touching the floor is harder for long-legged friends! Your torso just has that much more distance to drop!
✌️ When we hang onto external yardsticks like fingers touching floor, we overlook that what matters is the 💭 intention - it's WHERE you want to go (chin to toes, not head to knees), but also HOW you're stretching yourself to get there (from the hips).
🙌 The same goes with a promotion, a goal weight, a dream client. How did you apply yourself in this process? Stretching yourself is itself hard. Celebrate that! Celebrate when you put together a deck that you're proud of. Celebrate each time you take time for your own progress. Celebrate each time you show up for yourself.
