༄ Why did my soul chose to be here?

What can I contribute to the world in this point of time? In a world in which fear causes more and more separation and confusion? That's the question I asked myself two years ago. During a deep meditation I saw myself being part of a circle of people: moving, singing, laughing. Then I knew. This was my soul purpose. My mind asked me if it made any sense. My heart told me it made more than sense. By sharing music, movement and sounds with you I invite you to take place in the circle. A circle in which we are not afraid to dream. A circle in which we dare to connect with ourselves and others. A circle in which we observe and release our thoughts and emotions. A circle in which we express who we are and what we are made of: Love & Light.

How do you want to show up in the world?
Where? And with whom do you want to stand?

These are questions that keep returning to me.

And more and more, I find the answers when I turn my attention inward.

Into my body.
My breath.
My voice.

There, I meet the places where I hold back and the parts of me that are ready to move, open and express.

Every new day gives us another opportunity to choose.

Yesterday, I was invited to be part of the cycle celebration Zephyr

I chose to say yes. Fully!
Connected to my body, my breath, my voice.
To the earth, the music, the tribe.

One word, one feeling kept moving through me:

LIBERDADE

The freedom to listen.
The freedom to choose.
The freedom to show up more fully as myself.

That is what I want to carry forward🐍

More truth.
More awareness.
More liberdade.

And maybe the question for you too is:

What would “liberdade” look like in the way I show up?

A place where you don’t have to keep up an image.
A place where you can show your vulnerability.

Come back to your body.
Share your truth.
Reveal what you don’t want others to know about you.
Take off your mask.

Let the waters flow.
Be the rock.
Be the egg.
Be still.
Be grand.

Discover your medicine.
Meet yourself deeply.
And from that place, meet others.
Truly.

Contract & expand.
Dance.
Fall & rise.

An exploration
of that which you truly are.

There was a time when I felt confused about where I belonged.

Born and raised in the Netherlands, with roots in Indonesia and Ghana, I often felt as if I was moving between different worlds.

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that belonging isn’t something others get to decide for us.

A part of me belongs to Ghana.

Not because I speak Twi fluently.
Not because I grew up there.
But because I feel it.

I feel it when the drums begin.

I feel it in the way my body responds before my mind has time to think.

I feel it in my dance.

It’s a recognition that exists beyond words, beyond language.

Those with an open mind and an open heart may recognize it too.

But the most important recognition is my own.

Perhaps that’s where belonging begins.

Not in being understood by others, but in recognizing yourself.

Sometimes belonging isn’t about finding a place.

It’s about remembering a part of yourself that was there all along.

Why do you hold yourself back from fully expressing who you are?

Or maybe your question is the opposite.

Why do you sometimes express yourself even when it doesn’t truly feel like you?

Is it because you’re afraid you won’t be enough if people see the real you?
Afraid of being rejected?
Misunderstood?
Or is it because being seen, validated, or appreciated has become more important than listening to what is actually true inside?

I don’t ask these questions to judge.

I ask them because they have become some of the most valuable questions I can ask myself.

Every reaction.
Every hesitation.
Every moment of overexplaining, staying silent, pushing, or performing…

Can become an invitation to look a little deeper.

From where am I expressing myself?

From truth?
Or from fear?

The beautiful part is that there is no finish line.

Every day offers another opportunity to become a little more honest with ourselves. A little more aware. A little more free.

I recently turned 48, and I’m still learning how to swim properly.

But I truly enjoy the dive.

What I’ve learned at this age?
More compassion
More patience
More vulnerability
More willingness to use my voice.

And perhaps most of all,
a growing willingness
to really meet myself.

My limiting beliefs,
my personality structures,
the rules I have created
and the masks I have learned to wear.

The part of me that is afraid to disappoint others.

The part that wants to meet expectations.

The part that still fears not being good enough.

And the places where I still protect myself from being fully seen.

I am learning to meet these parts with more awareness.

To allow myself to deeply feel
what it is like inside of me.

To listen to
what is alive underneath the pattern.

To meet
what feels true, even
when that truth is highly uncomfortable.

I do not share this because I have figured it all out.

I still meet these structures in myself.

What feels different is that I can recognize them more clearly.
I can stay present with them.
I can take responsibility for them and
become curious about what they are protecting.

What I would love to keep learning is
to remain open
courageous enough
to meet the places where I am still guarded.

Where can I rest more deeply within myself?

Where can I be more honest?

Where can I allow myself to express what is really alive in me?

Where am I still protecting myself from being fully seen?

And through it all, can I keep my heart open?

That is what I would love to keep practising.

Deeply listening.

Finding the courage to express what I discover.

And asking myself, with honesty and compassion:

What do I choose now?

Summer Solstice. Two years of Zephyr.

Every gathering carries its own medicine.

Some arrive wrapped in ease, joy, and lightness.
Others ask us to meet ourselves through challenge, discomfort, or surrender.

This year’s Summer Solstice at Zephyr reminded me of that.

One of the moments that touched me most was the journey guided by Afrosideral. Through rhythm, voice, and music rooted in West African traditions, something ancient seemed to awaken.

A remembrance.

Not only of my own West African roots, but of something universal.

The part of us that existed long before performance, perfection, or self-consciousness.

The part that knows how to move.
How to sound.
How to celebrate.

I watched people soften into that remembrance, expressing themselves more freely, beyond fear, beyond shame, beyond the stories that usually keep us small.

Another highlight was experiencing Mose live.

I’ve loved his music for a long time, but hearing it performed live was something else entirely.

Whether moving through downtempo moments or vast, cinematic big-room landscapes, every kick drum felt steady and grounded, as if the heartbeat of the earth itself was pulsing through the speakers.

And then there was the unexpected invitation from Fernando and Mose to spontaneously “crash” the stage.

A beautiful reminder that some of the most memorable moments are the ones we never plan.

Interestingly, the sun remained mostly hidden throughout the day.

Yet somehow that felt fitting.

As if the invitation was not to bask in the outer light, but to connect with and shine our own inner light.

Our Soma Sol.

Deep gratitude to Grace Kelly, Fernando, and the entire Zephyr family for welcoming me into this tribe a year ago and for continually bringing together such inspiring artists, creators, and beautiful souls.

A reminder I am taking with me:

Set intentions.
Release expectations.
Stay present.

Because what each season offers is never exactly what we expect.

But if we stay open, it is often exactly what we need😌🧡

Sometimes the most nourishing thing we can do is pause 💃🏼

To step out of the roles we carry.

To soften the expectations.

To stop performing, fixing, leading, caring, achieving… even if only for a few hours.

A moment to reconnect with your body.
A moment to hear your own voice.
A moment to be held in the company of women without needing to be anything other than yourself.

Whether you arrive dressed in your most radiant expression or wrapped in simple comfort, you are welcome exactly as you are.

Scrolling through my camera roll today,
I was reminded
of how much life unfolded
over the past months.

So many co-creations.
So many collaborations.
So many new faces.
So many unexpected encounters.

At the beginning of spring,
I set a simple intention:

To remain open.

Open to opportunities.
Open to connection.
Open to life.

Without attachment to outcomes.
Without needing to know
exactly where it would lead.

Looking back now,
spring feels like
sitting at a long table of abundance.

A season full of invitations,
experiences,
opportunities,
connection
and growth.

I welcomed it all.

And at times,
it felt as if I had jumped onto a moving horse, allowing life to take me to places I hadn’t planned for
and introducing me to people
I didn’t yet know.

Not every step was graceful.
Not every moment was clear.

But it was undeniably alive.

Supergrateful for all the beautiful co-creations 🙏🏽✨💖

As summer begins to unfold,
I can feel a different invitation arising.

To slow down enough to digest the meal.

To integrate all that was received.

To spend more time inward.

To let experiences become wisdom.
Connections become roots.
And seeds become something stronger than an idea.

A season of integration before the next bloom.

What has this season been teaching you lately?

Raised as an only child,
I think I have always known
the longing for soul family.

Perhaps at times
from a place of lack.
A longing to belong.
To be seen.
To be understood.

But over the years,
that relationship
has changed.

Today, soul family
means something
very different to me.

It is not about
people agreeing with me.
Not about
always feeling comfortable.
Not even about
spending every day together.

Soul family is
having people in your life
who become part
of your growth process.

People with whom
you dare to be vulnerable.

People who witness your gifts,
but also your struggles.

People you can ask for help.
People who challenge you.
People who celebrate you.
People who make space for you to take up space.

People who remind you
that you don’t have to walk alone.

And perhaps most of all,
soul family reminds me
how interconnected we truly are.

Beyond bloodline.
Beyond cultural background.
Beyond the color of our skin.
Beyond nationality.
Beyond the names we carry.

Life keeps showing me
that we belong to one another
in ways that are often difficult to explain,
yet deeply felt.

Over the past days,
I reflected on that
with in mind
a diverse multi-day experience
together with people
I consider soul family.

The images in this reel
are a small impression of that experience
and of the vibrant souls
I shared it with.
