Highlight of the week: 44Cup Cascais 2019 ⛵️🏆
Team Aqua has shone this week between big waves and small, gale force or sub-10 winds, and by consequence winning the 44Cup Cascais with a race to spare. This was something common for Team Aqua during her glory years of 2011-13, but a rare thing these days cause the recent level of competition in the high performance one-design monohull class.
Team Aqua was already holding the 44 Cup’s golden wheels by having been crowned RC44 World Champion in Marstrand in July, so a 4-3 yesterday was enough to seal the deal. However, Team Nika: Russian Sailing Team end up winning both yesterday’s first and last race, the latter by almost half a leg. Thus, Team Nika is just one point behind Team Aqua in the overall in the 44 Cup

“The boat felt quick and the team was working well together, I just think it was about not making mistakes. It was flat water so if you could get a clean lane and had your boat speed. All round, it just felt pretty good." - Chris Bake from Team Aqua during the 44Cup World Championship earlier this month. They went on to win the title followed closely by Vladimir Prosikhin's Team Nika: Russian Sailing Team.

"I think if we sail well, Team Nika has a shot at winning here," says Slingsby, who is calling tactics this week.
"There are 9 extremely close, competitive teams, so firstly we need to race at the top of our ability. After that we will need to close out the event strongly. I think this type of close competitive racing does help myself on the F50. It’s all the same tactics but it just happens at a different pace. It’s all good."

Our boys have been busy! Congratulations Kinley Fowler, Ted Hackney and the crew of Convexity Racing for their M32 win at Charleston Race Week. And hats off to Tom Slingsby and the crew of Team Nika: Russian Sailing Team on a strong 2nd place finish at the 44Cup season opener in Montenegro. Next stop, San Francisco!

Russian sailing team competing in the RC44 Championship Tour Team Nika is a Russian sailing team competing in the RC44 Championship Tour.
Launched in May 2011, the boat is owned and driven by Russian technology entrepreneur Vladimir Prosikhin. Having purchased the former K-Challenge and recruiting many of the former Slovenian EKIPA 44 team, including double Olympians Mitja Margon, Tomaz Copi and Tomislav Basic, Vladimir is planning to build a strong competitive team that can challenge for the Championship Title in the future.

After the second day of racing in Portovenere the ranking gets shorter, with Nika on the lead and Brontolo and Fremito d'Arja following with one and two points of delay respectively.
Stay tuned for the finals, starting tomorrow at 12.00!

The third appointment of the Melges 20 sailing season, organized by Melges Europe with the precious support of the Municipality of Portovenere and the Committee of the Sailing Clubs, has started today in Portovenere.
The sea breeze was sharp on the race course and engaged the fleet in three balanced and competitive races, with wind peaks that reached 12-14 knots.
Best boat of the day is Vladimir Prosikhin's Nika who, with a scoreline of 2-1-3, gains the top of the ranking three points ahead of the rivals, Fremito d'Arja and Brontolo, on the equals with 9 points.
The Melges 20 fleet will return to racing tomorrow at 12.30.

Finished here in Cascais Portugal with a great 2nd place with Team Nika. Fun sailing with a top group of guys. I have good memories here as this is where I won my first world title in 2007. Im looking forward to coming back. For now it’s home time after a long European season 👍

Our Story

Now “Nika” is twice RC44 world champion and Melges20 Worlds runner-up. Still more to conquer!
