We’ve observed several blogs and individuals running false information about our match against South Sudan yesterday. It is disheartening that some people choose to spread misinformation without making any effort to verify the facts.

Let us clarify the situation:

This was not a friendly match it was a crucial semi-final in the Inter-Countries Tournament hosted at ULK. We were 1–0 down, but as history has shown, our team is known for strong comebacks, and we were determined to turn the game around.

Unfortunately, an incident occurred on the pitch. Two players one from Liberia and one from South Sudan got into a disagreement during play. The referee, in an attempt to calm the situation, issued yellow cards to both players. However, the South Sudanese player reacted violently, punching our player in the face even after the referee’s decision.

As the referee was about to issue a red card for that violent conduct, a group of South Sudanese fans stormed the pitch and physically attacked a Liberian player. What followed was pure chaos. Our players were forced to defend themselves, but they were clearly outnumbered by the crowd that invaded the field.

It is important to note that this incident appears to have been pre-planned. We still do not understand how fans were able to suddenly appear with sticks and other objects, posing a real threat to player safety. Such behavior has no place in sports, and it must be condemned by all.

We call on the tournament organizers and the relevant authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure appropriate action is taken. The safety of players and the integrity of the game must always come first.
