Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar made history a year ago when he became the second-youngest winner of the Tour de France.

In 2021, he's making history again. At age 22, he became the youngest two-time champion in the 108-year history, and the youngest to win two consecutive yellow jerseys.

Patrick Konrad soloed to victory on stage 16 of the Tour de France in Saint-Gaudens.

The Austrian champion attacked out of a breakaway on the Col de Portet-d'Aspet, the penultimate climb of the 169-kilometre stage from Pas de la Case.

And Konrad had the power to hold off a counter-attack from David Gaudu and Sonny Colbrelli to deliver a second stage win of this year's Tour for Bora-Hansgrohe.

MARK CAVENDISH EQUALS EDDY MERCKX RECORD OF 34 TOUR STAGE WINS WITH HISTORIC VICTORY

Mark Cavendish equalled Eddy Merckx’s long-standing Tour de France record of 34 victories to cap one of the greatest comebacks in sports history.

And it was a one-two for Cavendish’s supreme Deceuninck-QuickStep team in Carcassonne as the Manxman was guided to the line by Michael Morkov after a hectic Stage 13 finish.

Nils Politt soloed to victory on stage 12 of the Tour de France as Tadej Pogacar retained the leader's yellow jersey.

The German broke clear with 12km left on the 159.4km run to Nimes after being involved in a long-range 13-man breakaway.

Pogacar finished safely in the peloton behind Britain's Mark Cavendish.

"It's a dream to win a stage in the Tour de France. It's the biggest win you can have," Politt said.

It was a tense finale but Deceuninck-Quick-Step led the peloton in the final three kilometres to set things up for Cavendish to finish off the job.

The Manx Missile is just one stage win behind Eddy Merckx's all-time Tour de France stage wins record.
