Following the resounding success of the 2016 Honiara visitor map, next years edition is already underway.
Its fair to say we underestimated the effect this product would have on the community in Guadalcanal. Following its distribution across Honiara we where surprised when we saw local residents studying it.
Even more surprising was the reaction we got when local people recognised us as the producers of the map: Big smiles and warm congratulations accelerated the realisation that this product, while fairly 'old hat' in most developed countries, is a matter of great pride here and something that has been too long in coming.
Now proudly on display in; cafés, travel agents, hotels, phone shops, the cruise ship terminal, airport and even Kings cabs, the map, as well as becoming an integral part of the visitor experience, might just have begun to unify the great offer here.
A big thank you to to all who have contacted Halo Scotia offering support and thanks. We were particularly pleased to hear from the beach sites on the coast, reporting visitors had found their way to them through the map.
The next issue will, along with some enhancements will be available by the end of December 2016 and throughout 2017.

Collar up or down? Solomon Business Magazine

After 5 months of development and consultation with the Solomon Islands Visitor Bureau (SIVB), Halo Scotia, a locally based company has received the first shipment of 45,000 visitor maps, which are now available across Honiara.
Halo Scotia Company Director Matthew Flinn said, “The arrival of the map marks an great step forward towards the improvement of information services for all visitors. Those visiting can now immediately connect with local businesses when they arrive at the airport or step off a cruise ship.”
As well as helping visitors to find their way around, the map, which is now available in coffee shops, hotels, travel agents, the airport and SIVB highlights the key businesses, services and cultural landmarks within Honiara.
With a 5 year plan to develop tourism in the Solomon Islands director SIVB Josepha Tuamato said “this is an important step on a journey our country must make to improve the scope and quality of information available to in-country and prospective visitors.”
Recent arrival Emma, (pictured) was one of the first to collect a map at Henderson Airport. “This map is great. I just got off the plane for a 3 day visit and immediately I know where to get cash, coffee, shopping and what to see and do” She said.
As well as visitors arriving by air, Honiara will receive over 10,000 visitors by cruise ship this year, each of whom will be given a free map to find there way around. It is hoped that this will dramatically increase their visitor experience as well as the likely hood they will return for a longer visit in the future.
