look at the diagram and ask yourself:

Look at the summary, the diagram and ask yourself

To write an introduction, you need to paraphrase the task.
To paraphrase you need to say something in a different way, keeping the same meaning but using your own words.

The overview consists of one or two sentences summarizing the most important features.

1. Analyze Trends:
Simply look at the beginnings and the ends of lines (don’t worry about the middle).

After looking at the general trend, you should look if there are:

In order to describe a graph, you need to understand the ⏲️ time frame and the use of the correct tenses.

Read the following text to understand the exact grammar used when describing line graphs.

Consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables rose steadily from 1970 to 1990, and then leveled off. There was a dip in the early and mid-1990s, and a further rise until it reached a peak of 500g per person in 2005. Since then consumption has fluctuated. Over the next ten years, consumption is expected to fall steadily. Between 2020 and 2030, it is also projected to decline, but more gradually.

According to the above text, the answers are:

💚 When should you use the past tense to describe a line graph?
Use the past tense when describing a trend or event that happened between two fixed times in the past. (examples in the text: rose, leveled off, was, reached)

💚 When should you use the present perfect tense?
Use the present perfect tense to describe a trend or event that started at a fixed time in the past and has continued until the present. (examples in the text: has fluctuated)

💚 What other expressions can you use for future trends?
(examples in the text: is expected, is also projected)
Other expressions that you can use to describe future trends include: is/are likely to and is/are predicted to. Note you should avoid using will.

💚 When would you use the present tense?
Use the present tense when describing a cyclical trend, for example a trend that happens in the same way every year.

There + (be= is, are, was, were) + noun + in can be used to describe trends.

Example: There was a sharp rise in fast food consumption.

The line graph displays alterations for burglary, car theft and robbery in the center of Manchester between 2003 and 2012.

Overview
In general, one goes up, one goes down and one stays relatively stable.
three general things about the graph would be:
💚 Burglary decreases dramatically.
💚 Car theft increases steadily.
💚 Robbery remains steady throughout the period.

🔴 OVERVIEW
Overall, the most noticeable trend is that burglary fell dramatically over the period. Car theft fluctuated until 2008, upon which it rose steadily; whereas the number of car thefts remained relatively stable between 2003 and 2012.

The line graph illustrates how many books were read by males and females at Burnaby Public Library between 2011 and 2014.

An overviewخطوات سريعة لكتابة الاوفرفيو لقراف الأمس
First, look at what happened from the start (2011) to the end (2014). From the start to the end both lines increased. Then look at any other general trends for each of the two lines.

The blue line (women) goes up until 2013 and then does down a little. The green line (men) goes up slightly and then has a very large increase between 2012 and 2014.

These are the most striking or most obvious things we can see when first looking at the graph and these are perfect for the overview.

When looking at dynamic graphs, look out for:
💚 What does the data do from the start to the finish?
💚 Do they generally go up or down or do they fluctuate?
💚 Any significant difference from the general trend?
Overall increase/decrease? Peaks/lows?

🔴 an overview
Overall, over the entire time period the number of men and women reading books increased. Women saw a steady increase between 2011 and 2013 before declining in 2014, while men increased gradually at first before rocketing up in the last two years.
