I REALLY wanted there to be a solution that would make me feel like my normal, energetic self again.
And yes, there was something we could address. I talked to my midwife, we checked my iron, it was still a little low, and we’re working on that.
But there was also something I didn’t particularly want to hear:
My capacity right now might just be different.
I’m 43, pregnant with baby #4, raising three kids and working. My body is doing a lot. So instead of spending every afternoon frustrated that I can’t accomplish what morning-me put on the to-do list, I’m changing the plan.
1. Address what I CAN address.
For me, that meant talking to my midwife, checking my iron and following her recommendations. If your exhaustion feels significant, don’t just assume you need to push through it—talk to your healthcare provider.
2. Work WITH my energy instead of against it.
My best hours are roughly 6am–12pm. That’s when I’m prioritizing focused work, movement and the things that actually matter.
I’m done pretending 3pm Kaylin has the same energy as 8am Kaylin. She does not.
3. Accept that some things are going to wait.
House projects. Organization. Work ideas. The never-ending list of things I’d love to get done.
Does that bother me? Hell yes.
But fighting my current capacity isn’t giving me more energy. It’s just making me frustrated with the energy I DO have.
So right now, I’m trying to change the plan instead of fighting my body.
If your energy has changed lately—pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause or just LIFE—ask yourself:
When do I actually feel my best? What deserves that energy most? And what can wait for now?
Save this for the day your to-do list and your actual capacity are having two completely different conversations.
