Hey All, I'm launching my 2hr Snowboard Ground Tricks Programme.

I have created this programme to have a fun and enjoyable way to learn Snowboarding without snow! It is based on practices that we do off-season so that we are able to build the awareness of balance and body control while on the snowboard. Do note that this class does not teach you how to link turns while sliding down a slope, but it is for people who eventually want to reach a very nice level where they can really enjoy the snow trip and do tricks when you go overseas.

Time Sensitive: LIMITED from 15 Jan to 28th Jan ONLY!

Dear Friends,
As a special arrangement between Ice Magic Asia and Singapore Ski and Snowboard Academy, we will be conducting Ski and Snowboard Lessons on real snow in Singapore!

I intend to conduct Private Snowboard Lessons from 15 Jan to 28th Jan in the evening 8pm to 10pm at Ice Magic (Bayfront Event Space). So If you are interested please find below more details and register your interest. Recommend to come as 4-5pax to optimise your investment in your lessons.

NOTE: All lessons are pre-booked and we do not do walk-ins.

*Why Learn in Singapore first?*
Prepare yourself on the equipment familiarity and also basic snowboard foundations before you go on your trip. This will help you maximize your time exploring the mountain and also minimize your time at the beginners slope (which can be one of the most dangerous place if it is crowded). What we teach is exactly what you would learn on the mountain but in a more controlled and private teaching area and you are also not paying for lodging. Most people will take 3-5 lessons to be at a level that they will feel confident enough to tackle the mountain beginner slopes. We are here to help you progress faster.

For more details please use this link and register your interest here to book your time slots. We will contact you to finalise the details and costing.

It’s been a long time since I rode down Niseko Village. This was well before I became an Instructor and coach. All I remember is the painful falls because of the lack of knowledge and guidance. This morning, I took the gondola up with the rest of the ski school instructors to do their morning run before lessons started. Now that I am armed with the knowledge and training as A CASI Level 2, I rode down the whole slope to the best of my ability. I was totally amazed how much I have improved and it was really cool riding together with the rest of the instructors. I am truly grateful for the lessons learnt and all the support I have been given.

Save this as a reminder 📩👇

No matter how many coaching skills you master, if you can’t get truly present in your sessions, chances are you will not know how to structure them well, or ask the right questions, or help your client discover insights that could change their lives.

The power of presence in any coaching session is expressed in how you show up as a coach -

💛 Are you feeling curious in the conversation?

💛 Are you really interested in helping your client with a solution?

💛 Are you able to truly listen to what your clients want to communicate?

If yes, stay present to the conversation.

It is what will guide you to your next steps!

Qualities of a great sports coach 26/09/2022

https://olympics.com/athlete365/entourage/qualities-of-a-great-sports-coach/

There is no single correct way to coach an athlete. You have your own unique coaching style that works and that no one else can replicate. Nevertheless, there are some traits that are common to all great coaches, no matter how they are applied.
1
UNDERSTANDING THE SPORT
To be able to teach effectively, you must have in-depth understanding of the sport from the fundamental skills to advanced tactics and strategy. You may even have experience from a career playing the sport. Coaches must plan for the season, know the progressive nature of training adaptation, know the rules, and provide a simple, structured environment for athletes to succeed.

2
EAGERNESS TO LEARN
While a good coach knows a great deal about a sport, you must continue to learn and develop new training techniques. Staying up-to-date and informed of new research, training and everything which supports the coaching process is a sign of a great coach. Attending classes in a range of subjects such as sport psychology, nutrition and exercise physiology is a great idea and is readily accessible for any coach who wants to grow and improve.

3
SHARING KNOWLEDGE
Obtaining knowledge is important but having the confidence to share and seek others’ views, especially those outside of your sport, is a key quality. The best coaches clearly understand they are there to educate the athletes. Most athletes spend most of the time training on their own, so the more they really understand what they are doing and why they are doing it the better they will train and practise.

4
MOTIVATIONAL SKILLS
A successful coach is a motivator with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for the sport and the athletes. A coach who can motivate is able to generate the desire to excel in their athletes. When motivating a player, a good coach stresses trying to reach performance goals, not outcome goals. Enjoyment and fun are the cornerstones to successful coaching.

5
KNOWING THE ATHLETE
Being aware of individual differences in athletes is an important ingredient in coaching excellence. Emotional displays may work for some athletes but could have a devastating effect on others. Individualising communication and motivation to specific athletes is vital to successful coaching. Paying attention to your athlete’s emotions, strengths and weaknesses is the responsibility of a good coach.

6
COMMUNICATION
An effective coach communicates well and exudes credibility, competence, respect and authority. You should be able to explain ideas clearly. Clear communication means setting defined goals, giving direct feedback and reinforcing the key messages. Acknowledging success is also essential for good communication. Language is a key part of coaching and keeping everything simple and easily understood can be vital.

7
LISTENING SKILLS
Part of communicating effectively is listening. You should be compassionate and welcome an athlete’s comments, questions and input. An effective coach will actively seek out information from athletes, and work in an environment where athletes are encouraged to present ideas and thoughts.

8
DISCIPLINE
Athletes need to adhere to a reasonable set of rules both on and off the field and if these are ignored you are responsible for discipline. Trust between athlete and coach is of paramount importance at all times and essential for successful coaching. An effective coach clearly states a code of conduct up front and adheres to it. Evidence supports that for discipline to effectively change behaviour, it must be mild, prompt and consistent.

9
LEADING BY EXAMPLE
An effective coach also leads by example. You should adhere to the same rules you expect of athletes. A coach who wants respect should also show respect and a coach who wants athletes to listen should also listen to athletes.

10
COMMITMENT AND PASSION
The best coaches are in the profession because they love it. Besides being strongly committed to the sports and success, the best coaches display a clear commitment to looking out for the best interest of the individual athletes. Coaching is an around the clock job, as top coaches live and breathe the art of coaching.

Qualities of a great sports coach Every coach has their own style, but some qualities are common to all great coaches

Wow! My first Alpine Ski Race for Giant Slalom and I won a prize (3rd Place) for my age group! Extremely grateful for the opportunity to compete with the NZ Ski Masters Competition.

I would like to thank God, my beloved wife and kids, my mentors and friends for the amazing support and inspiration to accomplish this big milestone.

The race was extremely exciting and very challenging. All i can say that when you go that fast, your form goes out the door. I was simply focusing on finishing the race without missing any gates, otherwise I would have been disqualified. All racers get 2 runs, but my legs were too tired already by the time i reach 2/3 the way down. Definately dont miss leg day!!

I'm looking forward to my fellow friends to see who wants to compete together next time. Let's go!

Mission 1: Complete Race Training (Completed)
Mission 2: Compete in Alpine Ski Race - Giant Slalom (Completed)
Mission 3: Snowboard Training with Mellen Jay, CASI Level 4 Tech Team (Completed)
Mission 4: Pass CASI Level 2. (On going)
